84. posulli88 360: Done! Ready to ship to NH. IMG_4058 by Rick Jones, on Flickr 79. MS304: Tear down, inspect, fix, rebuild. This should be called Rattle Can Rebuild EN66. OK, they spent some money on the heads but literally stuck a cam, lifters and Timing set in it. They installed a internal oil line WITHOUT even taking the engine down to clean. This was supposed to be a big money rebuild ready to start. Good thing that didn't happen. Stock and original pistons, rings, bearings, cam bearings. Main and rod bearings looked really good but the cam bearings were shot. And the cam? It is a Comp Xtreme Energy 10-216-5. Might be a little big for a 8.5 304 with a Eddy Performer Intake I am thinking. www.jegs.com/i/COMP-Cams/249/10-216-5/10002/-1IMG_4062 by Rick Jones, on Flickr A oil galley half full of sludge never hurt anything.. If not for your intervention, we'd be reading about another one that didn't make it out of the driveway.

75. BStuts390: Done! Well, except for swapping out the fuel pump, carb, and dizzy. Oh right, then I have to bolt it up to the transmission and install it then, get the car fully functional. This goes in the BBO Mod Javelin that has been in my shop for 2 years.. Anyway, talk about mellow! Pure stock rebuild. Boaaareing. IMG_4076 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

Mechanical fuel pumps suck. Literally and figuratively.

Hell, it may have been 3 or 4 years for all I know. I went through one myself as well just to be as cool as you.

Rick, what would " UN"boring a stock build? Have you run any recent "realistic" numbers on a "stock" build? I was just curious what a "stock" 360 or 390 is putting out and what your expectations were to make a stock engine build unboring without doing an over the top build...

I was just curious what a "stock" 360 or 390 is putting out and what your expectations were to make a stock engine build unboring without doing an over the top build... It is hard to justify $500.00 for a dyno session to find out how much a stocker really puts out so no, I have never tested one. It would be alot less than advertised for sure. My only reasoning behind that statement is when conisdering some of the mild rebuilds that we have done, they barely make it to even the advertised ratings. It would be cool to see how much a 280HP 343 really makes. Same for the '70 360. And don't even get me started on the 327... Only guessing here but, the 390 and 401 may be the closest to advertised. There you go. A whole bunch of words that are entirely my opinion with no factual data to back it up.. (But at least I admit it!)

They might be your "words" but I don't have any problem believing them simply because of my years of experience with AMC's. I haven't read the other forum's V-8 engine threads in years simply because of all of the "butt dyno" jockeys. I read enough of the crap they spew about originality to know that they don't have a clue about what they are talking about when it comes to the engines...

Your opinion is a hell of a lot better and far more respected than most people's "facts"
The whole HP thing is LOL! at best. I'd rather tell people I have 200HP then go put 10 car lengths on their "500+HP" engine. Now that's fun funny stuff!
