I thought painting the insides of an engine with glyptal fell out of favor decades ago...

Done!IMG_2710 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Man these stock appearing ones are a pain in the ass to "restore". Curtis390: A local dude who had to go to court to get his car and engine back from the builder. He is afraid of what is inside so.. Tear down, inspect, reassemble, start and run. 96. Rotroo390: Moving along well. See Page 36! 76. Dan1500 360: Done!Kinda cool to see the extra drain-back holes working. IMG_2810 by Rick Jones, on Flickr This block is a late Jeep block with the extra core plugs in the rear and the casting number is 3195528AC. I have seen the number with a "X" after the part number but this is the first "AC" I have seen. Here is a video of it running after brake in. IMG_2820 by Rick Jones, on Flickr 95. Thanks much to all who assisted with parts, advice and machining.
The Farm Guys pulled through for me and I impressed with all of you guys.
Much thanks to you Rick Jones as well! Couldn't have went this far with the project without your help.
I'll always remember the times we had putting this all together! The motor sounds strong and I can't wait to drop the throttle on this thing.
My best time so far was 12.7. I'm expecting to drop at least 2 seconds off of that. We'll see soon.

I added all of the drain back holes and the internal oil line as well. IMG_2939 by Rick Jones, on Flickr 97. SC397: 360 bored and stroked to 397. 98. VL390: 1970 Javelin street car. 99. 95. Curtis390: This was all built and ready to start.. Right. First thing was I couldn't even get the distributor out of the thing without hammering it. Go figure, it has a after market timing cover. If that wasn't bad enough, check out bad the oil slot misses the cam feed hole. One of the worse I had ever seen. This engine wouldn't have even made it off of the starting stand. IMG_3073 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Here is another bad thing. These flanged 6 point ARP rod nuts are too big at the flange for the 390/401 rods. You can see a witness mark where they are trying to seat on the outside. We will have to machine these down to get the correct contact patch. IMG_3076 by Rick Jones, on Flickr The cool thing is this is another one of those Seuper-Dee-Duper 1970 390 blocks with the numbers stamped on it. IMG_3066 by Rick Jones, on Flickr The number is *S 23962*70*

Did that one come from a highly famous AMC restoration shop in Arizona?

Those are 2 of the motors that really interested me and I'm wishing I was there with ya to see how it all turns out. Got mine on the motor stand finally. Been fixing things on the car. Time to retightened the head bolts. Then it's ready for the next step.

In that last Timing Chain Sprocket oil hole misalignment picture, where those Camshaft Keys replaced ? Those rod bolt fastener diameters seem like that would be something easy to miss for a casual hobbyist.

In that last Timing Chain Sprocket oil hole misalignment picture, where those Camshaft Keys replaced ? Yes, they pulled them out of the stock cam and put them in the new cam. Pretty mangled up. I will put new ones in. Those rod bolt fastener diameters seem like that would be something easy to miss for a casual hobbyist. A easy miss if you don't look for it.

94. MLeDuc401: Spirit Street car. Had it started and running and then watched oil drip out of the back of the engine. FelPro kit but remember, they were bought out by my old company and guess what. They changed rear main seal suppliers. This seal has Germany embossed on it. And those chunks that are missing? There were no chunks missing when I installed it. I know just enough about seals from working in the shock industry to be dangerous. The seal was not cut, chunks have come out causing the leak. Yea, I am pissed. I put another Felpro seal in but it didn't have Germany embossed on it. IMG_3470 by Rick Jones, on Flickr
