Can you get the AM part # R4B in now? Unfortunately still no for the pure stocks. It would probably slide by fine in FAST factory stock though, along with group 19.

Then your good. You could Go with a lot of stuff, like a david kee toploader, he has huge ratio options and shifter location is not an issue if you can make up a simple mounting plate. I have made a couple to adapt toploaders to my javelin and hornet. Also the t-10 options have two or three really nice ratio spreads, and if you look at the tailshaft shifter mount areas, making a plate to get the stock shifter correctly posistion is very do able. I guess if i was starting from ground zero i would buy and advance adapter kit for a gm trans and a 288 191 133 t-10 and go from there. You would need a little longer driveshaft but thats a good thing. Thanks Spud, many good options there. Not sure if it is worth it for the "pure stock" AMX. May be a better plan for the black 74 though. And really, a 998 auto keeps sounding better and better lol...

Well its all bench racing. Pure stock is probably most rewarding when done well in the spirit of its intent. Every machine is what it is. My life has been influenced in many ways, with and by the cult of hot rodding to a greater degree, where the possibilities are wide open and as unlimited as a guys creativity. You got a great topic, a great car, and are doing great stuff with it, and i enjoy it greatly. Like any work in progress your machine will change for the better and we can all enjoy it with the magical gift of the internet. Also i have had much enjoyment from my torqueflite adventures. They are very interesting components and the parts supply and options provides a lot of fun too. Tuning a torqueflite is a challenge but like any challenge is fun and rewarding. Of course they are never perfect… i need to modify some of my modifications, in search of the unobtainable perfection i seek from 50 year old junk. One idea that may benefit us all someday is a dedicated torqueflite topic here. I know we have some good info in remote places, i have some good stuff in my eternal javelin topic. In my opinion the 904/998/999 is the best auto trans to play with.

Thanks Capt! I was hanging out Thursday night with Bill Dicicco, Rhett Moody, and Michael Rae from the Stock Appearing FB page. Those guys are hilarious! All those pictures that Bill took of my car sure show all the little flaws, but those actually are my original hazy chrome center caps😄 I need to put the repops back on for race season. I was mid-swap on the carburetor, about to test another 4300 I had built for this event. Fun stuff.

Has the car ever been ran otherwise with a Holley 750 or bigger dp just to see what it'll pull all else the same?

Has the car ever been ran otherwise with a Holley 750 or bigger dp just to see what it'll pull all else the same? No, it has only been dyno'd and run with the 4300. A Holley would be a major improvement, I'm sure.

Nice runs, Joe! It looked for all the world like that Trans Am had a sizeable advantage over your AMX.

Thanks Reb, the T/A is definitely the quicker car. I had some luck when the less experienced driver in his dad's car missed a shift the last two rounds of our shootout. The quicker car doesn't always win!
