3200 pays for a lot of fuel. The kid has me thinking about a little chinabomb turbo setup on the cop car. Then I drive it around all day and am still smiling, why screw around and take a chance at not enjoying it? Keep the AMX as a fun driver Rick.

I will say this about that. Driving a Tremec is not like driving a T10. Yes the total cost would be cheaper with a different transmission but the fun factor is less with a modern transmission in my opinion. I have a Nash (Richmond) 5 speed in my 68 AMX and that was fun but I can shift a T10 better.

70 Adventure of the day; Rick and I were headed to a small tractor show(cuz that's what farmguys do), pulled up to a stoplight. A car was stopped in the left turn lane. All of a sudden, a young black man asks out his window: "Hey. You interested in racing that thing? We both turn to him, and Rick says; "Sure! Let's Go! You ready?" The young black man scans his eyes over the car, gazes at the blister on the hood and calmly replies: "I'll pass". Good laugh all the way to the tractor show, until we were getting hit on by the old strange weaving lady.....

Yea we were both scared of the weaving lady. She hit on both of us on the way in and out of the barn. Thank God the Margarita shop was on the way home to take the edge off.

Driving the 401 Hornet with the TKO trans has been nice. Not enough miles on the clutch to go crazy with the shifts yet, but seems to have nice positive shifts so far. I've always been a "T" handle fan, but this thing has a Mopar style pistol grip in it. Really kinda liking it..
Too many years driving stuff with OD now. That whole not keeping up with traffic shit, isn't so much fun anymore.

Maybe she figured that you were looking for a little strange and she knew that she was about as strange as it gets.

I actually did a little work on the AMX which of course turned out to be a lot of work. Fiberglass sucks. I have a few hours in getting the thing straightened out. It also took some engineering to get it mounted to the deck lid. The bolts go through right where there is no flat surface for a bolt and washer. IMG_5375 by Rick Jones, on Flickr I didn't like the location of the mounting hole in the trunk bracket so I tapped it and JB welded in a aluminum bolt then cut it off and re-drilled the hole. I got a little creative and made a adjustable end cap for it. I sandblasted both parts to hide the imperfections and besides it is much faster than trying to polish them. It was a Holiday today so I allowed myself to work on my own stuff today, It took me 3 different cans of interior dye to match up with at least one panel on the interior and not look entirely wrong with the Jeep steering wheel. I shot the horn button and steering column to kinda blend it in. Thanks to n2ojoe for the AMX center cap. IMG_5512 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Painted the bottom of the deck lid as well. IMG_5513 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Shot the spoiler with black DP90. I am leaving it that color to see if I like it on the car or not. It will dry to a semi-gloss black. Glad you got to spend some time on your own junk. What are you going to use to match the satin finish on the outside of the trunk..

I like it, it helps break up all of that red. One panel painted, eight more to go..... IMG_5543 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

I have been tinkering on the 70 AMX a little bit lately... Driver's side door glass cam out of the track last fall so I took it out and Windowelded it back in the track. The door hinge bushings were completely shot so spent the time to fix that as well. Fixing the hinges and glass was a all-day deal but now it is done. I have to do the same thing to the passenger side as well.... Some other day. Finally swapped in the 2.87 rear end that we built up. Used a NOS Torsen carrier from a Hummer because... I had one and figured, what the hell else am I going to use it for. Not thinking about it until I was putting it together but the stock axles will not work with the Torsen. So now I have Dr.Diff axles in it because I had to. And of course swapping the rear end meant all new brakes, brake lines etc. I still need to replace the brake line from the front to the back. Luckily the previous owner had replaced the rear springs so that saved me a day trying to get them loose from the differential and rear shackles. The 2.87 seems pretty nice so far. I have been driving it like a old man but it motors from stop just fine, takes a little longer between shifts but, cruises 70 MPH at 2600 RPM. It seems quite peppy at about 83 MPH which is about 3100 RPM. Anyway, I am leaving a 4 speed in it and not changing it to a 5 speed. If anything, I may talk n2ojoe out of one of his 2.64 T10's if I can afford it.. I drove it a hour and half to Dearborn in 3:30 traffic yesterday and other than the normal idiot drivers driving stupidly, everything was fine. Side note - I went to the water pump rebuilder's shop, which is a jambed packed one car garage and picked up some water pumps. He showed me some water pumps that he is rebuilding for two different Tucker Cars. Pretty cool. he is the only one that does it. IMG_7004 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

I'm betting that when you finally get a Hornet or American or Machine (add another project of your choice), running and drivable, you'll get bored with this car. That's when I can swoop in and buy it!
Oh wait, I don't have any money..

That's when I can swoop in and buy it! Oh wait, I don't have any money.. It's funny, when I was younger, all I wanted was AMX's, and I've owned a lot of them over the years. Now, I don't have any desire to own any more AMXs. I have my SC/360 that I've been working on a little at a time but now I have a hankering to own another factory, V-8, Gremlin.
