Tell us how you really feel Spud lol! I had my box from Summit waiting for me when I got home tonight (yeah, Summit ROCKS) The kit looks nice, and the split window plate is very sturdy. I'm impressed so far. I have a date code correct "dizzy" (man I feel like a complete jackass for saying that, even in jest!) sitting on the bench that I got from 71sc360 awhile ago that's just waiting for attention, so I'll assemble another complete unit to swap into the AMX. 20180725_230905 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

The advance curve in a motorcrap duraspark totally sucks ass and is a total pita to recurve. The mag trigger is awesome. The rest of it it a pos Yea, what is with those things? On the dyno the advance goes to infinity unless you weld the slot for the advance half shut. I have the Duraspark system on my Javelin and it seems to be pretty reliable, although I keep a spare brain box with me at all times..

The duraspark Is a great ignition dont get me wrong. But the design of the motorcraft distributer makes it a total pita to tune the advance curve, which is always too slow and like sc pointed out will over advance at highet revs. You have to drive the gear off and dissassemble it to get at the advance at all.

I had a Pertronix in my 70 AMX (driver). It lasted about 3 years of summer driving before the magnet started to delaminate. I also used a Unilite conversion but I don't have any real time with it, I sold the car that I installed it in a few months after it went it. I wanted to try the American Autowire, single wire in my SC/360 but I am not there yet. Gonna be a few more years before I get close to installing one..

I like the metal reluctor wheel, that looks like a really nice setup.

I like the metal reluctor wheel, that looks like a really nice setup. Thanks for correcting my terminology, I couldn't think of that to save my life after a few beers lol. I started assembling the kit before work but ran out of time. I will say the reluctor wheel spins extremely true with no difference in gap to the pickup throughout it's rotation. Really nice stuff.

I finished up the install this morning. I decided to swap the kit into my currently installed distributor for a fair comparison, with no changes in timing, shaft wear, etc to credit a change in performance. This seemed to be a great setup on paper, with the stock appearing single wire hookup, and it is intended to be used with a resistor wire system so my factory tach still works. Guys, this flat out fixed every driveability problem I had. No more surging at cruise rpm's, no shudder/randon misfire or backfire. No more long crank/hard start when hot. Plus it now revs cleanly to 6k rpm, where it fell flat at 5200 before and struggled the last 1/4 of the dragstrip. I am seriously excited, and can't wait to get back to the track again! I'll play around with timing when I do go, it may be happier with something totally different now. 100% 2 thumbs up!!

Lol, I've been chasing these issues for a long time so it's great to have some closure. I have the Mustang finally ready after a long rebuild, but I get more excited about my 13 second AMX! I'm such a dork sometimes

The Duraspark was the big problem with starting. We found that out when we did the dyno run. Chuck ripped it apart and bench fixed it to perfection. IIRC it was trying to throw 50 degrees advance at start up. I power mine with an MSD 6AL.

Back to my favorite quote from Ol' Smokey. "Most carburetor problems are in the the distributor."
