Man, look at all the progress lately. Great work Rick. It's almost like you retired and have all this extra time now. ;-)

8: 70 390 NEJoe: Done!. Interesting that the 3 center main caps were stamped (not embossed) with the direction arrow. Notice that the numbers are on the opposite side of each other as well. This was a factory thing and not exactly sure why they did it. We tried to flip them the opposite direction and they wouldn't line up right. Factory screw up? Who knows. IMG_1333 by Rick Jones, on Flickr This block is also one of these Super De Dooper rare ones with numbers stamped in the left side of the block. IMG_1334 by Rick Jones, on Flickr From the TSM: IMG_1458 by Rick Jones, on Flickr If the first letter matched what is the TSM at least these numbers might make sense. Not sure what the "S" means other than Service or Super De Dooper. IMG_1436 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

I'm absolutely convinced it stands for Super-Dee-Duper. What else could it mean?

92. WJT360: It Runs! This one is for a stick shift Jeep SCRAMBLER. 8.5:1 360 Comp268H, Torker intake. I am going to tell him that the Torker intake will deliver more torque through the entire power band. Not sure which carb he is going to use. IMG_1867 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Done! I would love to dyno it. If I was a betting man, I would bet that it would make a honest 300HP and maybe a little more.

93. FleetFox383: 383 Stroker for a J10/TH400 Richmond VA. .075" over bore to 4.155" and still lots of meat in the cylinder walls. I measured the area where the Sonic Checker Probe is and then correlated that with the calipers. So that is as accurate as I can get it. IMG_1870 by Rick Jones, on Flickr I guess I didn't get everything cleaned out of the block before I took it to the machinist. This one was a bitch and took me at least a hour to get it cleaned out. IMG_1873 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Cleaning out every threaded hole with a tap takes forever but worth the time. IMG_1875 by Rick Jones, on Flickr I burn up a electric drill a year using it with a wire wheel so, I buy the cheapest one off of ebay that I can find. I just got the ugly green Rockwell today. We will see how many blocks it does before it bites the dust. Update: The drill bit the dust after 6 months of use. IMG_1876 by Rick Jones, on Flickr A hour and half later it is ready for Zinc Primer. IMG_1877 by Rick Jones, on Flickr In round figures, I have 4 hours in to the block and I haven't assembled a thing to it yet. Comp Cam 270H and matching Comp Cams Timing gear which is a re-boxed SA Gear. Not terrible but I will still move the oil slot over to line it up better. IMG_1879 by Rick Jones, on Flickr I always have a hell of a time installing Comp Cams in to the cam bearings once the cam bearings are in the block. I took a bunch of measurements of the cam journals and and bearings and compared it to the cam drawing. It appears that there is .008" clearance between the cam journals and bearings across the board but the cam journals are running to the high side of the tolerance. Not surprised, it seems that I don't have this issue with any other brand. I would like to come up with a number that I could hone the bearing to so that I don't have to do it with the bearing in the block. IMG_1885 by Rick Jones, on Flickr IMG_1881 by Rick Jones, on Flickr And this one is no different then the rest. Now I get to spend 2 hours carefully honing out the bearings so that I can get a slip fit with the cam. This sucks. IMG_1883 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Short block together. IMG_1965 by Rick Jones, on Flickr A feel good thing and can't hurt anything. I started drilling a hole in the middle of the oil pump idler gear to help lubricate the shaft. IMG_1966 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Pretty new Stainless valves. IMG_2009 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Upside down for the last time. IMG_2010 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Finally got the rest of the parts to finish it up. These heads have the slotted hole in to act as a guide for the push rod. You have to be carefull when you use guide plates with these heads. The top picture shows that with the guide plate and the slot in the head, it pushes the push rod off to one side so that it is not lined up with the lifter. Some guys drill the slots in the heads out bigger but I just move the guide plate over so that there is no bind. IMG_2058 by Rick Jones, on Flickr IMG_2059 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Almost ready for the starting stand. IMG_2061 by Rick Jones, on Flickr It runs! 270H cam, 9.5:1 compression ratio. IMG_2066(1) by Rick Jones, on Flickr It runs again! - The beast was smoking a little bit when I blipped the throttle. So second guessing myself, I tore it back down to inspect the rings etc. Couldn't find a thing wrong. After triple checking the rings I put it back together and still had some smoke but less of it and it is getting better every time I run it. Need to swap out distributor, fuel pump, carb, re-torque head bolts, change oil and she is ready to ship. IMG_2179 by Rick Jones, on Flickr
