OK, pretty sure I won't get off easy on this problem, but I figgered I'd ask the experts before tearing into it. My '95 F250 won't disengage from 4WD. Manual shifter appears fine, it will go into 4 low and neutral and back to 4 high just fine but not 2 high. had my wife move the shifter while I watched, and appeared to move full range. My bad for letting the fluid get too low, so I filled it back up and ran the truck with the wheels off the ground for a bit. No noises. Up and down the driveway after that, but still won't come out of 4WD.
Guessing it won't be a $5 fix..

Just unlock the hubs and call it good. Someone who actually has clue will probably show up and give you some usable advice.

Is there adjustable linkage between the shifter And shift lever on the transfercase? If so it could be out of adjustment, you could shift the transfercase at the shift lever on the case to rule out anything internal. I don't have experience with that model tcase but had that same issue with my jeep tj, the linkage was sloppy and out of adjustment.

Linkage is tight, and there are no signs that it moved around. when the concrete warms up a little, I'm going to disconnect it to make sure it is moving far enough on the lever

for what it's worth, on my 79 GMC w/ a np205 i have to back up 25 ft or in reverse to get it to shift back into 2hi from 4 hi. Just a thought, might save you some grief if you haven't tried it.

Yea, tried that. Most times nice and easy, maybe a couple of times shooting rooster tails out the front..
