A few photos from the Pure Stock drags at Mid Michigan Motorplex over this last weekend. We had 3 AMC's racing this year. My 70 AMX, Larry Wheymouth's 71 SC60, and John Becker's 68 AMX. I was paired up with the silver 1971 Mustang 429, who had qualified on Friday with a 13.21 to my 13.20. We had a good 2 out of 3 shootout, and I swept all 3 rounds! Great time as usual, and great seeing everyone again. imgly_6373335139727960923 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220917_135905 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

I got motivated yesterday and put some gaskets in the Liberty T10 that was discussed a few pages back, and swapped it into the 70 AMX. I drove it a few times so far, and I gotta say that I'm digging the gear spread. 1st is killer, and mostly useless on the street with any throttle. 2nd drops the rpm's back down to the meaty torque this tractor engine makes and it RIPS! 3RD and 4th are nicely spaced as well. As far as the pro shifted syncros, I suck at rpm matching the shifts on the street so far lol. I'm taking the car to US131 this Friday for the F.A.S.T. frostbite nationals to see the results on the time slips.

n2ojoe did it again beating the evil nemesis 340 Crop Duster 2 out of 3 at the Fast Drags yesterday! He also set a new personal record... I will let him give up the details. Here is movie of round two: IMG_6103 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

Thanks Rick, I'm glad your boss let you go and hang out for the day. Farmguys at f.a.s.t.! The track prep and weather conditions were the best I've seen all year. At noon the density altitude was still -400'. These rentals are the best, I was able to make 16 passes during the day with a new personal best for the AMX at 1.87 60', 12.60 @ 108 mph. I was really expecting better mph, since it has run 109-110 in worse conditions. I didn't bring any other carburetors to test, or any larger jets, just forgot stuff packing at the last minute. But the f/a meter was 12.8-13.0 at the top of 4th gear so at least it was safe, even though a bit lean. Kinda funny, I was back in the staging lanes waiting for 2nd round and noticed what looked like hair hanging out of the left exhaust pipe. I pulled about a 3 foot chunk of gray fiberglass insulation out of the pipe. Darn mufflers are rotted inside and coming apart! The car was gagging up a hair ball, maybe that's where the mph went 🤪 The race is run much like the Pure Stocks with pairings for a best of 3 heads up race with whomever qualified closest to you. The exception is that all classes race on a pro tree. I was paired with the 340 Duster automatic that ran 12.61, so it was a good matchup on paper. It was driven by Caroline Straub, who comes from a big racing family. She's probably 20 years old, but is getting the hang of the Duster pretty well and made her debut to the f.a.s.t. 12 second club at this race. Here are the time slips from the shootout. I won the first round on a hole shot. 2nd round was also a solid light and decent pass for the win. We decided to run the 3rd round just for fun, many racers quit to load up after a loss in second round. I managed to shift from 1st to 4th and ran 13.36 giving her the win lol. Cute girl, she deserved one at least😁 She'll be tough in that car with a bit more practice on the tree. 20221030_091326 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20221030_091256 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20221030_091236 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

Oh, I get it. It's the old "pics or it didn't happen" internet tough guy threat lol. Well I wouldn't want to be called a liar out on the playground, now would I? 🤪 Last night I had to get out a ladder to retrieve all the time slips from the fast race from the glove box of the AMX up on the lift, so I could sort them again for the best timeslip. Here's a picture of that little activity for proof. 20221103_192544 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr Out of the 16 passes, 15 were all between 12.60 and 12.90. And then the one 13.36 slip when I shifted from 1st to 4th 😄 Here is a picture of all the timeslips for proof. 20221103_193614 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr It actually made 5 new personal bests throughout the day. There are three 12.71 passes, a 12.63 pas, then the 12.60 best. The best 60' it has done is a 1.83, though it was on the 12.63 pass pictured here. 20221103_193750 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr And here is a picture of the 12.60 run for proof. The 60' was a bit softer, and the muffler packing coming out through the tail pipe have me thinking that a 12.5X would have been possible. But that's just bench racing, who knows if I'll get those same weather conditions to ever repeat these times again anyway. Fun stuff. 20221103_193759 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

No, not calling out in any way, last decade my full exhaust street strip car owned ~30 years ran best of 12.6 at 109 also, but not at all "stock" like yours, and was curious how your 12.6 #'s look next to the old 12.6 slip(s) I have.
Coughing up fur ball exhaust is hilarious.
