Guysolines!
I believe its a super deal. My insane search for a 290 flywheel took me to a Hays billet steel neutral balance piece for 190$.
Its the last one of its kind. Write to nickcraighighperformace@gmai.com or Ebay. I almost bought it. Its new.

Exactly! I almost bought it.
Finally a 290 flywheel became available but the seller asks more than 200$ and its way up un Canada. And pitted.
Doomed...

Whaaaaatttt? I am desperately looking for one since before the Corona messed up our planet.
I finally solved the gear box dilema by adapting a brasilian built Clark 4 speed from the ´70s into a Jeep bellhousing.
But the flywheel is a tough one... Help!

Will that one also work on a '72-up crankshaft?

Will that one also work on a '72-up crankshaft? I would assume no because, it lists that it fits just from 1966 to 1971.

I could swear that I used a flywheel from a '70 360 on a '73 360, but it was so damn long ago that I really don't remember.

The 72 and up flywheel will bolt on to the early crank but only the bolts will index it. The counter bore on the back of the 72 and up flywheel is 4 9/16" and the counter bore on the back of the 66-71 flywheel is 4 1/2" rebsamcandjeep.proboards.com/thread/585/amc-290-401-flywheels-flexplates

Hummm...still on this flywheel subject. I sneaked from my wife (the corona fear) and ran to my speed-shack to take some measurements.
The counterbore in the back of my ´78 wheel is not 4 9/16" (4.563")... it is 4.630"... and the crank flange 4.535"... so they do not touch.
Is it correct? What actually centers both pieces is the smaller hole with 2.685" for both, crank and wheel.
How do you guys include photos here?

1966-1972 Flywheel counter bore to mount up to the flywheel is a slight press fit at about 4.496" 1972 and later flywheels have a 4.575" counter bore but indexes off of the raised flange. Your measurements might be slightly different than mine. You ware looking for a 290 flywheel. Do you have a 290 engine that needs a flywheel? You have a 1978 flywheel. Does the crankshaft flange that you are measuring have a raised ring on it like this one? IMG_4174 by Rick Jones, on Flickr IMG_3113 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

Exactly sc397. My flywheel and crank belong to the sleeved 78 360 I have mentioned before. I am not using this 360 now. Its a future spare engine. The wheel I need is for the original 290 on my 68 Javelin,a factory AT car.

I just took my 290 flywheel to the machine shop yesterday to be turned. I will put a price on it for you when I pick it up.
