You get the credit for making the down and dirty dingdong bust a move and actually check what he was selling. Cuz i think the only thing in the package of use to you would have been the posi, which it did not have.

Still advertised as a "Posi"

Could be, Cap, I dunno. I'd like to think otherwise.
spud, I'm still kickin' around going to a lower gear than 3.15. I sent Rick a PM about a gearset that he had mentioned.

No gear does it all. A wide trans helps considerably. You can get new gears pretty cheap, but the real cheapies have a little zing. G2 gears are pretty nice. Richmonds are cheap but chinese i think now. I got some G2 3.31’s im gonna put in a bare housing with a crappy old powerlok( if i can fix it.)

I may go with a shorter tire if I decide to run the 3.15 after all. My old ones were 225/70-15, 27" or so. Maybe a 235 or 245 60.

This question is for spud: to run a toploader, I need a 6.3" deep bell, right?

I have some m&h drag radials 245/55r15 that are just barely 25”, but advertised as 26” tires...And for the street i have 255/60r15 m/t st’s, which are 27” tires. Its all a bandaid for 3.15’s. I guess a handy setup would be a halibrand quick change but they arent intended for drag launches☹️

This question is for spud: to run a toploader, I need a 6.3" deep bell, right? Yes. There is a factory amc housing that will work. I got mine from my hornet amx, it had a 258 with the little sr-4 ( fomoco aluminum light dutyfour speed). It had untapped holes that i finished for the toploader. This bell also comes in jeeps with t-5s. It may be found in othe amc chassis. You are looking for an amc bell that has the ford sized bearing retainer hole. It has two or three trans mount bolt patterns in it, but will likely only have one set of four holes finished. I have heard rumors quick time makes a bellhousing that fits a ford trans. I have a lakewood gm trans housing. I think lakewood quit making them. The bearing retainer hole is gm size and wont fit a toploader. But it is the right depth. It might be doable to modify one for a toploader, i think gm bearing retainer hole is bigger and a ring can be made to adapt a ford trans, them the boltpattern can be drilled in the trans mounting surface and nuts welded inside. It may also be possible to fit a gm bearing retainer to your toploader to use a jeep bell that fits a t176 or t 177( (which has a gm sized hole) . David Kee toploaders has bearing retainer adaptations. So making your toploader fit gm configured bells is a possibility. Lakewood made a few “ jeep” scattershields that fit toploaders, but are very hard to find. So thats the hard way. If you wanna hit the easy button, advanced adapters makes exactly what you need to fit a ford trans, including the pilot bushing. Keep in mind you want to ditch the amc clutch fork with something other than an amc bellhousing. A ford or gm fork is better. You want to ditch as much amc shit as you can. . You want a ford type release bearing for a ford fork, or a gm bearing for gm fork. What dictates all this is whatever bell you end up with may have either. Scattershields usually are set up for a gm pivot. Amc housings have the bullshit ball bearing pivot and your stuck using a jeep fork. So pay attention to this detail. It may be possible to modify an amc housing for an adjustable gm pivot, you can get them that screw in, but you would have to machine a hole in the aluminum. Advanced adapters makes a lot of fun shit that will get it done. They make these trick index adapter rings that are for fitting smaller bearing retainers to larger bellhousing holes, they sell a stock amc to sr4-4 bell ( kinda light duty looking) but the one i like is a heavier duty housing that fits like t-5 or t176 trans. Might have to call and tell them what your doing to make sure it will work like you want. A/A is $$$ but takes out a lot of runaround and headscratching, its a one stop one call deal.

I have an AMC T-5 bell, and another AMC bell that I'm not sure about, I'll have to measure it. Quicktime makes an AMC to GM trans bell, but it's like $850.
