Well, in a fit of drunken rage, I ended up buying a Quicktime AMC-engine-to-actually-useful-transmission bellhousing. So if anyone has a Toploader layin' around collecting dust, I might be interested. Anyone know how to get ahold of Dug (77hornetamx)? Seems like he might have had one.

Why it sux to be you is toploaders were always highly desirable and limited in quantity and availability. Not that you cant get one but cost is likely gonna change your mind. Its a fabulous trans if you can find one at a bargain price. That would take some serious snooping and scouring these days. You can get em new from david kee toploaders.... big money tho, he sells all new aluminum cased toploaders for like 2500$ He also has a lot of remans. This guy is the worlds go to toploader source. Not that you wont find a good old used one, just that thats harder to find. old original toploaders are collectors items bigtime and will fetch anywhere fom 500-1500 or more. That said, The newest and best thing in five speeds is the tremec tkx. Give it a gander. Its cheaper than tko’s. And likely a better deal than a toploader in the long run. Just sayin. I know 2800$ is gonna take a bigger drunk fit to do. I bought a tko a couple years back and want to shoot myself now the tkx has come out. A five speed has a lot of advantage over a toploader imo. And price is reasonalbe. Of course with 2.87 gears its a waste. Another thing i have seen is speedway is sellin new aluminum toploaders. Dont know who makes em but they are problee chicom, and same money as david kee new units at 2500. Amazon sells em for 2000. My thoughts are even if you find a cheap used old toploader. And it is mostly good its still likely gonna need some work. If you are serious and really want to clear your head try callin david kee. He has the used trans you want, he calls it a core. And he will wanna sell it all rebuilt with a warranty. I call that a hassle free good deal. He also had the anciliaries. Release bearings, slip yokes and whatnot. Then you can step up for 3-500 bux worth of shifter... you see where thats going. Thats why a tkx aint so bad. Of corse theres no tellin what kind of bargains you MIGHT find pokin around...

I'm gonna have to go on a week long bender and buy a five speed. Rick sold me a set of 3.54 gears, however, I have never set up a rear end before. Youtube U has a few vids on the subject.

Yeah, I think used trans are a lot like used Roots Blowers, people are only selling them because they need rebuilt. Unless you know the guy personally.

I can phone photo you through a gear swap. Used gears is harder. And your gonna need some special tools and such. I’m “ gearing up” to build a 3.31 twin grip . I want to buy some dr diff axles but the election disaster and chinese takeover has me kinda off the track. I started sending you some pics of the process earlier this year. I wouldnt rule out david kee either... a wide ratio toploader would still work with gears in the 3.0-3.50 range for dual porpose. I think he even offers custom ratios
