Well, mebbee the Camaro had a plugged fuel line, or four or five plug wires were off. Back when I was a teenager, I had a 360 powered Matador, and a friend of a friend had a 454 (bored to 460) powered Chevelle. On our measured 1/4 mile on Industrial way, I could beat him all the way up until the last 30 yards or so. Then he would blow past me at about 110 mph. Cool. AMC sedan blows away Chevy. Truth was, the guy just couldn't drive the thing, and was spinning out for the first couple of hundred feet. Didn't stop me from bragging and giving him a ton of shit about it.

Nah, we knew it would stomp the Chebby. 396 Camaro, 18s at best with Grumpy Jenkin's tuning and driving it.
Now beating the 390 Rebel Machine! *gasp* The Holy Grail of AMC. Now that's awesome.
It all looks like BS stories, but then again, I don't hangout with no driving/tuning clowns, so anything is possible.

Looks like a stocker would run a mid 17. Probably were a few folk who didnt leave stock alone tho. Not that reality matters much today cuz its only a memory. I betcha you will not see more than maybe two 327 rambler powered cars to square off against these days. I heard stock 426 street hemis were ok with some tuning and a splash of nitro to geth the gas burning in those shitty hemi chambers. Not like youre gonna see one on the street.

I started driving in 1979. My stock 290 javelin got beat by just about everything in town with a v8 and a leadfoot driver. But I was stupid enough to try. Thats what legends are made of.

I started in 83. I babied my 1st car. My second. I beat the ever loving shit out of, and it got faster and faster and faster just by beating it. It seemed to learn well. It was a just a B-Body 318 2bbl with lean burn and duals. I lost waaaayyyyy more races than I ever won, but I got closer every race. A buddy with a 302 4spd 67 Stang gave me that credit. But while everyone else was hanging out avoiding races so as not to get their ego's crushed, I raced. Can't beat seat time.

I started driving in 87, but I didn't get a car with a V-8 'til '88. My vaunted 360 powered '73 Matador. I tuned and tweaked on that thing on an almost daily basis. It held its own just fine with the stock 70s and 80s cars most of the other kids had. Won some, lost some, wasn't afraid to race anyone though. The only races I lost were either to kids whose dads built their cars, or guys who were out of school and just had better cars. None of us ever went the 50 miles each way to PIR, or 90 miles each way to Woodburn to race on a real track. We're lucky to be alive. Well, those of us who survived. Nobody ever got killed racin' around here, but a few got killed, or seriously hurt while hot-rodding around and showing off.

I didn't go to the track till 92 to race. Watched since I was 16. I figured it was a waste of everyone's time to run my slow junk. I still had slow junk in 92, but it was faster slow junk, it actually had headers and Eddy intake, so it was a racecar lol and I had to know, since I beat a couple of "12sec" cars on the street with it. Turned out I was running 16.0. LOL so much for 12sec cars. Then my love for racing shit talking dickbags began.

I get shit talkers every time I take my Rebel out for a cruise. I tell 'em meet me up at Riverdale (local track), loser pays winner's track fee. Best two out of three. So far, no takers.

I think there will always be more to it than weather an engine or car is a piece of shit or maybe not, in someones opinion. Becuz if a guy has skill, he can tune and drive beyond a car's assumed worthlessness. A 327 may be an outdated piece of junk. Considering when it was made and what it could do, my ipinion of it is high. I'm old enough to know its not worth trying to prove anything to anyone. If the world sez it sux it just sux. But if I had a rambler with a 327 I would love it enough to see how mych it sucked. My first javelin suckedvas bad as ethe world said it should. Years and $ later its a lot better but its still a piece of shit toathe world. So that makes my point. Amc sux ask just about any motorhead

I always loved that shit. I'm trying to think of how many years ago it was when Lyan (Ryan) Hardy started talking shit on me at Gremlin Buddy's house. "That POS can barely trap 100 (99.55) and my Neon will stomp it"
I asked him if he was turbocharged, no
Nitrous, no.
His answer, "electronics" wtf.
Anyways, my Son was young and he was with me. So I wasn't going to leave him with my buddy to go street race. (Lyan's car wasn't there anyways) and possibly get caught and have to have my Wife come to another State to pick my Son up while I was in jail, street racing with out of State tags. So I didn't say much and push it.
Then a local cruise came up and Lyan was flapping hid cockholster about my car down at my buddy's shop. My buddy just sold a car and got $200 commission for doing it. He told Lyan, "I have a fresh $100 bill that says that car beats ANYTHING you or any of your buddy's can come up with." (they were supposed to have a 10sec Vega and a 12sec Camaro as well) He started running his mouth some more, my buddy pulls out another 100 and says "wanna go for two instead?" Lyan said $100 was fine and he'd be there.
My Bud's driveway is steep, so when I pulled in that afternoon to head the the cruise, he was outside on his phone, as I passed him he put his phone to the back of my car as the Slowmasters rumbled hard into the phone. He was talking to Lyan and said "the car is here, get ready."
He hung up with Lyan and we headed to the cruise. Lyan was no where to be found. My bud kept calling him and getting his voice mail. Then his VM was turned off. That's about the biggest draft dodging pants shitting coward I ever met in my life. Big tough talking and scared shitless of a 14sec car.

On the 327, I'm told bone stock high 14s with just dual exhaust. My Son just put down a high 14 in his Mothers Camaro at the track. I say no stock dual exhaust 327 is going to run with it. They can go ahead and be a weasel and sneak mods under the stock manifolds, and lie about it if that's what it takes.
Actually Chevy's suck. Ask any AMCer. When ya make claims about times, without timeslips, you insult those who have them. That's my problem with the whole thing. The few times you find on these things are 17s in a lighter chassis than the Camaro. I don't insult until I am insulted.
