I took advantage of the empty garage while the 74 is out for paint, and decided to swap out the 70 AMX's 2.43 T10 for a fresh 2.64 I have here. I wanted to test this last year but just ran out of time. The FAST spring opener is coming up May 12-13, so I'll have a chance to go test on a good surface at US131. I REALLY like the 2.43 with 3.73 gears on the street, but it still took alot of clutch slip to get it moving at the track. This will change the starting line ratio from 9.06 to 9.85 while still keeping the great 3.73 4th gear mph. If traction is available, there should be a decent drop in the 60'. 20220430_130218 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

The engine bay finally got some new paint! The hood hinges are also being resprayed tonight, and I'll go pick the car up later Saturday afternoon. IMG_20220505_193055 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

Just great work as always. Thanks Jim, but I can't take credit for the paint work. My friend Chad paints at a local collision shop and has a very well equipped shop at home where he did this. I'd love to get the whole car resprayed eventually, but it's presentable for what I'm using it for. Chad's schedule and my wallet have made the decision that it's good enough for now lol. The engine bay will definitely look better than everything else does.

Looks great. Single stage, or is that clear I see on the paper? Now the fun part of putting it back together without scratching the piss out of it..

It is done in Sikkens, 2 coats base and 2 coats clear. Maybe a few scratches will help it blend in better with every other exterior panel.

More progress- the full Opentracker racing roller front suspension is done and moves nicely. All new brake lines from Kennedy needed a BUNCH of work to fit, but finally turned out well. I should have just done them myself. The new wiring harness is nice though. I sand blasted all the original voltage regulator and relays under hood, then clear coated them. The wiper motor was disassembled and painted. The fuel line was upgraded from 5/16" to 3/8". I have new Wilwood front disc brakes to get installed still. I was on the fence about the Mexican heater delete kit. The blower motor casting is really rough and wavy, so I milled the face to smooth it out and sanded the edges. I just couldn't bring myself to drill the flange around the blower to mount the delete plate from the front like it is supposed to be, so I made a bracket to mount the plate from the inside using an existing hole. I like the look better. 20220530_164442 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

I've been doing a little something every day on the 74. I installed Wilwood front discs to get a bunch of unsprung weight off the front, then reinstalled the fenders and splash shields. The front shocks are adjustable Summit set at 90/10, with short spacers underneath the top bushings to achieve full suspension travel. 20220612_162334 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220626_155131 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220626_155043 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr I ended up using the tall outer tie rods for a 69 Camaro. They are 5/8"-18 right hand thread, but stock AMC outers are left hand. So, I had to use the Chevy inner tie rods as well, which also made the overall installed length correct since the Chevy outers are slightly longer than AMC. The taper is the same angle but a larger O.D. on the Chevy stuff, so I had to use a 7 degree taper reamer to open up the holes in the steering arms and drag link. 20220701_170644 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr I cleaned and painted the radiator, sandblasted and painted more under hood stuff like the radiator reveal panel and core support braces, etc. 20220701_155158 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220701_155135 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220701_172103 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220701_170735 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr The dash and interior are back in with no changes other than the heater control delete plate and new speedometer and throttle cables. Both rear window regulators had to be removed as well to lube and free up stuck mechanisms, and the right rear glass had to be urethaned back into it's channel. 20220701_155451 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20220701_155237 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

After the FAST race at US131 with the 70 AMX, I had a torn left engine mount. 20220622_172741 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr So I made a couple of these solid aluminum mounts at work to install on the driver side of the 70 and 74. A little more stealthy and tasteful then a chain or torque strap to the cylinder head. 20220622_172925 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

Looks fantastic! Do you get a lot more vibration etc from the solid mounts vs urethane?
