Bought was supposed to be a race ready 68 AMX a few years ago. Car seemed like a decent deal and a quick way back into drag racing.
2x3 frame rails, mild steel cage, old cert for 8.50's, dana 60 and fiberglass everything. Story was the 360 had been freshened up and the th400 had only a few passes on it.
Plus side, the motor has a 401 crank, good rods and JE 4.195" pistons. Down side, the transmission exploded on the 2nd pass... 8.20 @ 23mph
While the trans was being replaced, i pulled the motor to check it out and then decided to clean up the chassis some and remove some old brackets and lower the car some Sits like it was set up for mud bogging). And as with any good project it snow balled like hell.
I came across a nice fi 401 with Parkman heads and a killer engine plate, so now I'm rebuilding the car around this damned plate!!!
Plan is to replace the entire mild steel chassis with a chromoly 7.5 cert one, update the rear from ladder bars to a 4 link and replace the old a-arms with struts. The the aluminum dash will be updated with a stock appearing fiberglass one and redo most of the tin work while it's apart. Folk Race Cars is doing the chassis work and got it on the jig today.
This is a bucket list project I've wanted to do since I was about 14. Only big challenge now is to fit in between the new bars. Chassis should be done in about a month.

8.20 @23 sounds like you dropped out of light speed a few yards short.

8.20 @23 sounds like you dropped out of light speed a few yards short. It was only an 1/8th mile run so no light speed involved. Rear end locked up going into 2nd... still not sure how it missed the wall.

I can't help it ACM is doing stuff all backwards, going and updatng/building a Race Car.
You're supposed to buy something like this, find a few other Racing Goodies for it, toss them in the Trunk, then put the Car up for Sale.

Here's the engine that came out of the car. Lot's of good parts and in good shape. The engine started out as a late 80's 360 but has lots of slick parts on it.
Looks like the heads have a decent port job but I'm going to toss on a set of Indy Sr's along with the fuel injected tunnel ram.
This is the one advantage to hoarding shit for decades, have plenty of stuff laying around. Just need to use it up before I'm dust!

That's quite the Rube Goldberg oiling system.
