Well, 32 years into my pension and almost 27 years serving the citizens here I am officially retiring from the fire service at the end of June. After that long it's going to feel weird not getting on the red truck ever again...that being said, it's time.
My days will now be filled by driving slowly in the fast lane with my signal on.

Congrats Tony! I was going to go this year too but our current, country destroying, administration is rapidly changing my plans. I am probably going to wait a few more years...

Congrats Tony! I was going to go this year too but our current, country destroying, administration is rapidly changing my plans. I am probably going to wait a few more years... I would have stayed longer with a possible promotion next year but with what's happening around the world and close to home I figure I'll take my chances and have at least 1 summer before it goes swirling down the toilet.

Wasn't the whole point from the get-go, or as they "sold" us... if ya, at first for a few decades, put your own real interest, pursuits, passions, loves, & desires to-the-side, for awhile, and instead put your head down for "the man", and if ya do, then they'll let ya, on the "other end", when your kinda old and can't really do it anymore, you're "allowed" the slim chance to finally actually do what ya wanna do ? if your still capable and blessed... I know... always the Dreamer... oh shit... what did I just say ?...

I'm in my 3rd year of not having to get up at 4:30. When my father in law was around, he hit his 30 years at Harvester at age 53. Gave them his AMF. They kept trying to get him to stay but he told them that everyone he knew that hung around til 65 went in the dirt within 2 years after.

The times are changing. I think i will change too. I’m gonna retire in a year or so. Certainly by 62. I dont care to work and live in poverty when i can not work and do the same.

Well, yesterday was my last day on the rigs. Had a few moments during the day that emotions started to get me but I managed to get through. My last call was rescuing 2 elderly ladies trapped in an elevator, rescued them and walked them to their apartments for a cold drink of water and make sure they were ok. That's a pretty good last call to remember.
Had a nice clap out at the firehall and took 2 of my grandsons home with me in a brand new fire truck. Ended up at a local pub with co-workers and family and had way too many drinks...lol Today, Canada celebrated my retirement with parades across the country!
Happy CehNehDeh Deh!
