I have never burned coal in it however, I may have burned a little waste oil in it in a pan from time to time. In years past, I have researched the waste oil burners/conversions and came to a few conclusions. one of which is that they plug the nozzles more often than I want to tear one apart and clean it. I plan on reworking my little oil burner space heater in to a waste oil burner.
