In about 1970 I had a bike that I have never seen since. 20" Stingray with 2" red line slick on the back and red line front skinny tire. It was chrome with a short duck tail rear fender, a banana seat and tall sissy bar. The coolest part was the Rams Horn handle bars which were actually painful on the wrists. Wish I could find one again. Hate to point this out to you but it's still going to be too big for you. lol

Holy sheet, that's a badass Hutch! Good on him for keeping it, if that's what makes him happy. Tony- sorry I forgot to reply earlier. The "stroker crank" has plenty of ground clearance. There won't be any high speed cornering on this old bike anyway. I did finish up the front fender bracket and installation tonight. I think I nailed the bracket, it looks REALLY close to others I've found online. 20231207_190257 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

I bought my first 7” campagnolo crank arms when i was 15. I think i was already wearing 36 inch jeans. The long crank was a little different, but i realized it wasnt a problem in ground clearance, fast corners you leaned over, inside pedal up, outside pedal down with most of your weight on it, most straightline action had both pedals nuetral, through jumps and whatnot, when your really cranking into it, accelerating, the bike goes into a snakey weave because your twisting your machine by alternating heavy pulls from left to right on the bars as you pump down alternating the pedals, its weird when you think about how it all keeps the pedals from digging in… when i went down the road the pedals went close to the ground on the downstroke and near the seatpost clamp on the upstroke. I have long legs and could do it, but it was pretty wild on a little 20” wheeled bike. It was geared long and i could blast off pretty good with a big crank. The one speed bike with a 42/14 sprockets would wind up to as fast as 40 mph for short blasts but the cranking action was to furious to maintain. I still have a scar on the back of my leg from dipping my toes into the dirt and losing it , getting a rat trap in the back of my achilles. Good times. This is why the frames evolved and had a high crank hanger. To allow a big ass crank more ground clearance. The 20” bmx bike frame technology escaped up kids for the most part. We just swapped bikes and tried someone elses stuff, to figure out what worked better ( for our differing skeletaI layouts) found i liked a bigger frame like a redline pro just because of my particular lanky build. Cyc stormers were also confortable. I still like a frame bigger than i probably should ride just for comfortable leg extension.

Interesting tidbit on BMX Steve, he's famous for his bars being laid back like they are. People can't believe he does what he does with them adjusted like that. He was/is Nick Bruce's Mentor. Nick grew up watching Steve ride in person at the Parks. Steve is a Pro. He was in Australia for years and is quite well off. He has a new Mid Engine Vette and it's Customized. Everyone thinks he's a Drug dealer with that car. usacycling.org/athlete/nick-bruce
