Oh right. I read it wrong. If you could get someone to make you a .040" or so ring to use as a shim yes, it would probably work.

Hi Guys, Late to party but have a question. I have a 72 commando that I am swapping the T-15 for a 72 nailhead th400. I have the cast iron spacer and flex plate. When I install the tranny the snout on the torque converter is about 3/4” away from the end of the crankshaft. I removed the pilot and installed the sizing bushing. From passed post looks like I need the flex plate spacer 318464. any help would be greatly appreciated

jecYou would be better off to start a new thread of your own. You'll get more help. BTW, welcome to the board!

since it's a Jeep, you shouldn't notice the vibration going from a stick to automatic too much...

Can't disrupt that fine tuned Conestoga wagon ride quality.

Hi, Thank you for all that information. I do have a question I can't find anywhere. I understand the later 70s AMC bell housing turbo400 trans came in the i258, the 304, 360, and 401. I have a T400 out of a Waggy with it's flex plate. (1978 I believe). Its 3 converter bolt holes are spread wider than say a GM t400 standard converter. I've been told some of the other flex plates on the I258s had the smaller pattern bolt holes for T400 converter. Are there two configurations and if so what are they? Every i258 flex plate I see doesn't look anything like a T400 converter will bolt up to it. Looks like a 4 bolt setup.

Is it a question that you can't find anywhere? Just messin with you. Two different flex plates from the factory. Either it is for a 727 or a TH400. My new SFI flex plate does have both patterns. www.summitracing.com/parts/PQX-1840100

I was told the v8s had a larger 3 bolt pattern and the i258 (which I've read came with the T400) had a narrower pattern that's the same as the standard GM T400 converter. My AMC Turbo 400 has a new standard GM converter. The flex plate does not match. The pads of the converter are inboard of the flex plate holes. The one you posted looks great but the application is 60s to mid 70s. Mine is late 70s which I understand is different.

Not to my knowledge but I could be wrong. I have a stack of them and the only difference is the weights between the 304,360,and 401. It is the same flex plate for the 258 but doesn't have the weight. Keep in mind that the TH400 was used only in Jeeps and not in any of the cars not that it matters.

I wish I could post a pic on here. My file is smaller than 1mb but says it won't attach. I could show you the issue. I called a Jeep company called Novak Adapters. They say then re-drill the holes adjacent and inboard of the existing holes. I was just hoping to buy a new flex plate that has the proper holes. My engine is internally balanced and doesn't need a weighted flexplate. My 304 flexplate doesn't seem to have a weight like others ive seen.

You'll have to use a third party photo host to post pics here. They don't give me much storage for self hosted pics. BTW, I've never heard of any difference between AMC TH400 torque convertors and Chevy TH400 convertors.

I added how to convert a SFI flex plate to accept a stock TH400 torque converter to the first page of this thread.
