It is kinda cool to know that there was some method behind the madness. All of our beloved AMC junk was actually designed by real engineers who actually had a clue. ;D

I have a copy of the flow bench stuff. I got it from a guy who used to work at ford... on their dyno and flow bench.

The interesting thing to me is that there is a "7" embossed in the valley area. The "Experts" say that the 7 indicates the year of the engine. I am not convinced....yet.. Ghaa! Yes it is a fact, I don't necessarily agree with the experts. I think that it is the number of the casting core. If it was the year of the block in the case, the 7 would indicate that those blocks were casted in 1977 or 1987. Regardless, the blocks came from a guy who worked and the Motors and he claims that they were NASCAR blocks. Help me out here... wasn't 1975 the last year that AMC was in NASCAR? OK, Jeep was pretty big in racing in 1977 so I suppose they could have been made for those guys. The counter too that is why wouldn't they just a 401. It would have been available. At any rate, I think I will start a log of all of the different castings on these blocks just for the heck of it.

Here is the machining drawing of the 360. I am not going to post up a picture of the title block in case Big Brother Fiat is looking over my shoulder. The first picture is the rear of the block. Note that the "1" and "H" doesn't show up on the machining drawing. OOoo, I love part numbers with "RD" and "X" in them. I wonder was so Xtra special about this block Trade mark and cast date.. What's interesting is the fact that the 1986 block below doesn't match the print. Remember though, this is the machining print and not the casting print. Maybe the casting print got changed but not the machining print.. Who knows. This 1973 block sort of matches the print but I don't know what the "215" means. I would guess that it was casted on the 215th day. Holy crap, I just proved myself right.... Pattern Serial No, right there on the print! You can see where they added the rear two core plugs in 2-5-79.

I think that's gotta be the first pic of an AMC Indy car I've ever seen.
