Are you going to port match them?

Nope, they are suppose to be ready to bolt on. Besides, all I really know how to do is port match and smooth things out. Man, if time and money were no object... Oh well, just read what ever Ken Parkman says on head flow etc. and save your self the learning curve. That, is what I say anyway..

Updates.. 60. 67RogueXCode: 343 block, 360 crank: Done! Resides in Texas now.. Great to meet you again Bob!! Not sure but, I think he had a good time. England Bound 360: Talk about Mission Creep! It reminds me of a certain green '72 AMX that Javtwotone, NEJoe and I worked on. Oh wait, this 360 is actually from that car. (Hope it is not a bad omen) Naaa.. Complete engine, rebuilt 727, all suspension and mechanical parts that I could buy including everything to re-do the brakes and rear end, bearings seals etc, as well as a complete wiring harness.($$$) A mechanical restoration "Kit" if you will. A ton of extra work etc to make sure everything was right payed off in the end. The Lady who is having the car restored put a bonus in my account for my trouble. I will make it up to her. There is still a $300.00 wiring harness on back order. Well if nothing else, I can say I can build a "Crate Engine" now. Trucked everything out today. First to NJ then on a ship to England. Lunati.. OK the first time they shipped a 6 cyl cam. I get it, someone made a mistake no big deal. Then they shipped a cam with entirely the wrong intake lobe. OK, honest mistake. Finally, we get a replacement cam and this one is not as advertised either. The intake lift is suppose to be .527". It is not, it is .540". It went in anyway. I won't be ordering a Lunati for myself anytime soon. I love this.. one size fits all. Oil pan stud kit is suppose to fit S.B Ford, AMC V8. Says so right on the package. Well I could probably use the (6) 1/4" studs for part of it. I not sure what they expect to do about the remaining (8) and the (6) 5/16" studs we are going to need. Oh, maybe I am suppose to silicone in the 3/16" studs that are in the kit. It is going to get the "Jones Kit" that actually works.

Naaa, my Cuz is the Expurt with those.. It is a mass thing. 58. JCJeep401: Oil pan and Reynolds Heads bolted on. According to the info on the heads, the valve seat spring pressure is 115#. I like to break them in with seat pressure no higher than 100# so, I pulled the dampers out and used different retainers that made the spring a higher installed height. I didn't have a different set of springs that would fit the head. Good to go. I will swap them back in after break in. ARP head bolt instructions said to torque them to 100#/ft. Eddy says to torque them to 100/110. The TSM says to torque them to 105/115. I torqued them to 110. Hey, at least it is starting to look like a engine now..

Last Upside-down shot. Time to roll her over in the clover.. The Eddy heads came with the rocker studs and guide plates installed. First I checked the torque and they were all ok. As I started installing the rockers I notice that some were cocked off to one side, not centered up on the valve stem. I had to loosen some of the guide plates and move them over a little. I wonder how many people just bolt them on and go with no problems. Maybe I am too picky.

58. JCJeep401: Internal oil line installed, intake installed (not fun). Spark plugs ordered.. They have to be 5/8" hex or you can't install them. Now I have to make a fuel line. This is the kind of crap that takes up the time. Hopefully, NEJoe has shipped the carb. I will probably brake it in with my 750 starting carb anyway. Who knows maybe by Wednesday it will be running... I will brake it in with my old reliable Motocrap Dizzy then switch it over to his D.U.I. unit for the dyno..

Rick, Why the stock (at least appearing) mechanical fuel pump?

Customer supplied... It only has a 5/16" outlet. He will undoubtedly need a electric fuel pump eventually.

58. JCJeep401: This Stallion will take a while to brake in. Right now, it just wants to melt the headers. Don't know why but , I will keep running it up to temperature until it gets straightened out.

If I may step in for a quick Q... Summit has a standard bore forged 401 piston from Sealed Power. Anyone know if they suck. $300. bucks for a set of 8. Now as much as I like a good deal, am I looking for trouble with this cheap junk? Or they have been around long enough to be a good piston. ??

I will look in to those pistons. I have used them years ago and had no issues. Does seem to be really cheap compared to anything else out there.. 58: JCJeep 401.... Done! You can't see it in the picture very well but we really got a nice centered up pattern with the roller tip on the valve stem.

Are you sure those are the correct retainers for those springs? They sure don't fit very nicely. That will spell trouble at some point.

The two to the left are the correct ones. I was in the middle of changing them when I took the picture. I broke the engine in with retainers that would lower the spring pressure. (Raised the installed heigth.)
