When I see all of the shit you guys clean out of these old motors, I think to my self "gee, it's scarcely odd that other guys rebuild a motor and can't even make it out of the driveway." That's a lot of gnarly shit that the hot tank alone doesn't always remove.

Thanks guys.. Even with all of the cleaning etc. there will still be a certain amount of desbres in the first oil change. That is why I change it after brake in and before it goes out the door. Besides, there is a bunch of engine assembly lube and petrolium jelly in there too. Now, should we post 4 pages on how to properly install a dip stick tube??

T Now, should we post 4 pages on how to properly install a dip stick tube?? I don't think a mere four pages would be anywhere near enough.

I can't do it.. I had like 6 pictures taken on how to install a dipstick and all of that but, I just can't see wasting 10 posts now, of cyberspace on such a trivial thing.. This one has a Crane cam in it so we are using their additive and Lucas brake in oil. The Lucas is handy because of the 5 quart jug. Over the years I have used all kinds of intake manifold bolts. I like to use stainless but they normally have the larger 9/16" hex head. The bigger head with a washer is tough to use because it is too tight in some areas. Regardless which bolts I use I take my die grinder to the manifold to clearance the tight areas. So far these Edelbrock intake manifold bolts work the best for me. They have nice thick washers and the hex head is 7/16". Much easier to work with. The Edelbrock brand are not stainless so, they will eventually rust if not painted. Intakes are not easy to install especially with the internal oil line. After I have made the oil line and the intake gasket trimmed out to fit around it it still takes me at least a hour (3 beers) to bolt the intake on. This is normally the tightest area.

OMYGAWD... ... how'd you ever get that dipstick in??? Just curious, what's on the front of the water-pump... some kind of electric drive? Is that the piece-o-shit distributor that I sent you? If so, I'm kinda suprised that you didn't launch it into the neighbor's corn field... that thing was a mess! ;D

I know, you all wanted me to post up 6 pages on how to install a dip stick tube, sorry. It is kinda funny, I never knew that you couldn't put the dipstick tube with the oil pan on... We set up the test stand so that the electric water pump and radiator fan is wired up to a switch. This way I can run the engine until it gets hot, shut it off and Keep the coolant flowing to cool it down. The distributor was pretty ugly. I cleaned it up some but you will need to "detail" it.
Yea, it might as well be gold plated when I figure out the cost of all of that primer, paint and clear...

That thing looks Bitter Sweet Orange witch as it happens, is my favorite color. As for the dip stick tube....Guess I'm feeling like I don't know the other 6 ways to skin that cat. Heat the block, cool the tube, and give the round a tap. with a line wrench? ? seems to work ok. ;D If you're laughing at that. How's it done right?

The engine paint is VHT-SP402 Burnt Copper. It comes out flat so, I put a coat of clear over the top. Dip stick tube install, really?? OK, but I will start a new thread and we can all make fun of it.
