Real numbers are sparse. Even numbers from the good old days had some..."interpretation... since different drivers, fuel, tires, weather will always give different numbers. And since "stock" didnt stay that way long when the stopwatches came out.

According to Edrie Marquez's book the 4bbl 327 made 255 bhp and the fuel injected 327 made 288 bhp. In 1964 he states that the 327 4 bbl made 270 hp. I am sure that they rounded up... maybe way up. I don't know if those were estimates or actual dyno results. Of coarse, that would have been with out all of the accessories. I would be more interested in how much torque they made like compared to a 343 or 360 myself.

That's kinda funny. I found one for a 290HP 360 in an AMX that turned 14.2. Which would be just about right. Can't remember where I saw it though.

Welp, one 327 thread got bumped up and I wondered how long it would be before it got stupid. Now they need no more than a 465 cfm carb cause the TSM says blah blah blah. I'm glad I didn't listen to the Holley Carb CUNTulater and asshole "an fagits" (as the kids now say) that write books. I spent time and 3000 passes at the track/street proving what the fuck worked instead of babbling theoretical BULLSHIT.
Proof or shut the fuck up lazy bastards too scared to turn a wrench and prove it.
*whew*

A 304 2bbl in the same weight chassis run's 17.0 with no tuning, 2.87 gears and 130,000 miles. A credible addition to this information is the study done of the original 327 Rebel from '57 and the Daytona Beach and subsequent "dry road" tests. The December 2004 issue of 'Collectible Automobile', pgs 8-19, author: Patrick Foster mentions that a non-fuel injection 327 was rated at 255 bhp. But that rating is for a 9.0 to 1 compression hydraulic lifter version. The '57 Rebel had 9.5 and solid lifters with the same hp rating. Wading through the specs available it appears that the car in question came with a three speed manual with o.d. and a 4.10 rear. Weight listed is 3353 lbs which may be the weight for an auto equipped version. On the beach the fastest quarter was 17.87 seconds. Instructive is that engineers coaxed 7.3 second 0-60 time averages on regular roads. For the question about torque it is a nominal 345 foot lbs. So, you have weight, rear ratio, 0-60 and torque with a guess that 270 hp might reflect the higher compression and solid lifters. As a point of comparison, a '68 343, 3-speed auto Javelin at 3241 lbs averages 7.6 second 0-60 times and 15.85mph quarters with an hp of 280 and torque rating of 365 foot lbs. Steve

The reason I brought up the subject again is I think that these are cool engines with potential. The hope here is that one of you smart guys can figure out from the extra info whether the engine is in the ballpark as a potential strong street engine. Some nice basic features are the strong "Y" block and stout main caps that settle in the bottom Mopar big block style and the priority main oiling.

^ Kinda on the main caps. Closer to a Fod Y-block design. Don't want to be a complete techno retard.

I like the looks of them myself. Just have a problem with them being labeled Hemi killers, fastest thing on the street, was never beat and such.
Anyways, I'm glad you bumped it, cause it's coming up on a year and not one single person has taken one to the track yet to make a single pass.
