I've been looking for a nice stock 71-74 Javelin for several years since selling my old 71 race car in early 2003. Ideally a very complete and unmolested car that needs little or no body/paint work, since I lack the skills, room, and interest in that stuff. This 74 AMX showed up on C/L in Butler, PA and checked most all of the boxes. It is an original 34k mile car with one repaint in the stock P1 classic black. Cinnamon tan interior. P code 360 4 barrel, 4 speed. Kinda unique being an AMX package, but pretty base on options; non go-pac, manual disc/drum, no A/C, hood T stripe delete, no passenger outside door mirror. No immediate plans other than to get it all sorted mechanically and enjoy it this season. Prolly pull the drivetrain this winter to detail the neglected engine bay. I have started collecting some parts here and there like the 15"x7" 8 slot rally wheels and functional ram air goodies (thanks Bruce!). The reproduction Goodyear Polyglas tires have been unavailable since last summer, so I may break down and go with radials on the 8 slots. I swapped wheels with my 70 AMX just to check out the look of the Polyglas, and the Machine wheels work well too! More wallet hemorrhaging to come. I know a guy in AZ who can detail that up real good for you.... Very nice ride, and it's from my old stomping grounds. Very cool.

Very nice Joe. I think you should go with an NOS painted mirror for the passenger side, you know, since I have one... Been awhile since I've sold you anything LOL. What a difference the machine wheels makes, wow. Those cars have too much wheel well for 14 inchers.

Thanks guys! Capt, I was thinking about you and the Lordstown plant stories as I rolled through NE Ohio. Butler was a nice area, but my old powerstroke was struggling to pull the loaded trailer up some of those hills! Javtwotone, I got those 15" 8 slots blasted bare, epoxy primed and painted. Turned out sweet, can't wait to get them on the car.

Swap you three FSJs, a "Barted" Jav/AMX, a Rebel and a couple of 401 cores for it.

Usually once they're flattened, it'll all fit on 1 flatbed.

Thanks Tony! I finally finished up the "new" 15" 8 slot rally wheels. Sand blasted bare, epoxy primed, painted semi-gloss black with polyurethane chassis paint, then Ford argent silver on the outer rims. I ended up buying new repop volcano center caps and stainless trim rings. The trim rings come fully bright polished, but the factory rings have a brushed finish on the inner barrels. So, I mounted the trim rings on the back side of an old Machine wheel and spun them on my tire balancer with sandpaper and a scotchbrite pad to get the finish just right, leaving only the outer lip bright polished. I really wanted reproduction Goodyear Polyglas tires on this car too, but they have been back ordered/unavailable since mid last year. I had to make due with 235/60/15 BF's for now. They probably are a much better street tire anyway. 20210713_171405 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr 20210706_183056 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr
