Really my only gripe about the Calvert leafs are the ride height fluctuations. I see so many that sit high. I ordered the 1" lower than stock ride height, and it sat 1" higher than my original 34k mile springs (granted, they probably have settled some in 49 years). I made some 1" lowering blocks to bring the rear of the car down, and actually wouldn't mind another inch lower yet. Maybe Calvert can supply rear leaf halves for me to fix it.

I think the rear leaf halfs may be the answer. I bought the “ stock” ride height and gained an inch also. I dont like putting spacers between the spring and axle. They seem to give the pinion greater advantage over the spring and instill the trend of wheelhopor brakehop and brakesteer. Seems to me a nice solid close relationship between the axle shaft and the spring gives the greatest axle/ pinion stability. Finding the rideheight and pinion angle that suits you is one thing. Finding the combo that suits the car and driving situation is another. In my experience the spring is king on that deal. I focus on pinion angle most , rideheight second. In the end it is what it is to some degree. I’m never quite happy with it in one regard at least, and its never right all the time either. Leaf springs are simple and effective, but simple cant give you a lot of sophisticated flexibility and adjustment.

I finished up another T10 over the weekend with parts from Brian Higgins. This is based on a 2.64 wide ratio, but uses the 1977-1979 GM "W" ratio 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and cluster gear. It now has a nice gear spread of 2.64, 1.75, 1.33, 1:1. It has one of Brian's custom AMC input shafts with the GM 26 spline clutch pattern for more strength, instead of the stock 10 spline. I used a new main shaft too with the late heavier 1/4" flange, and a billet rear bearing support. This should be a great ratio T10! 20231104_180016 by Joe Pinsoneault, on Flickr

I hope it works as good as I think it will. I ended up with quite a bit of dough in this one since it's pretty much all brand new parts, but it could probably be built much cheaper with careful ebay shopping. It's a really nice upgrade for an existing AMC 2.64 ratio trans.
