Or lack there of... Well the Nephew is all ready starting off on my shit list... He told me that he would be here at 9 this morning to start working for me so of course I start looking for him at 8:45. No show no call so I send him a text at 9:30. No return text so I call him at 10:15 and he actually answers. He responded with this "well um I gotta get a shower and I will be there after that". When he actually does get here we will be having a chat.

8:45 is on time for 9. 8:46 is late.
If I started at 9, I was there at 8:30 sometimes I'd be late at 8:40 tho. Sad thing is, no one ever appreciated me being there like that. They liked the guy that showed at at 10:30 cause he was likable. Useless, a complete POS worthless trash, cost the Company 10s of 1000s, never made them a dime, but likable.

I was working in the barn tonight thinking about your new found help and wondering if that might help me out. Hire someone for some of the minor crap, even working on the cars to get things moving. But now I remember why I never did that, I hate people, for all those reasons. Just not worth the aggravation.

Don't ever expect it to get any better with him, "a leopard doesn't change their spots". I've been working for the same place for twenty years, there is no commitment, no loyalty, no ethics what-so-ever. I've seen more people un-work their way out of a job than anyone can imagine. It's not a hard job and the company doesn't even care if you know anything about what you are doing, just that you show up on time and when scheduled. You'd swear you were interfering with a life changing situation when it came to getting someone to come to work on time. If they miss it once, they'll do it again, and again, and again. I hate people! The absolute worst animal that exists in the animal kingdom.

After we had a sit down I think he got it. He was hoping for $20.00 a hour and I told him that I would start him out at $15 and that we would negotiate higher wages when he has earned it. He worked pretty hard yesterday and did everything that I asked him to do. Time will tell but I will give him a chance to redeem himself. He is a 34 year old man who was in the service, divorced with 2 kids living off of a pension of some sort. He just doesn't have the same drive that I had at 34 but then again not many people did. At this point, I will take whatever help I can get and he is helping.

I had the opposite. We were on 10 hour shifts. I was the tech crew supervisor. Had 2 guys leaving and taking 90 minute lunches without clocking out on Saturdays when upper management wasn't there. Guys were missing lunches because no one to take over. Called a Monday am meeting including management. First they denied doing it. Guys missing their lunches got amnesia and don't recall. After denial they said they were entitled because they were better than anyone else on the other 3 shifts. Then they said I wasn't their supervisor since I was from an earlier shift. They wouldn't accept when I told them that I run whatever shift I walk into. Management had to do some convincing to that effect.

The old service taught you a little something about being on time. I guess the modern one, that you can sue the Drill Sergeant for hurting your feelwers, doesn't.

I was always there 45 to an hour early. Grab a cup of coffee, walk the floor and find out what went on the previous shift.

That starting wage reminds me of a guy up the road. He worked at GM riding a tow motor. welp, the Plant closed, he refused to transfer and they eventually gave him a partial pension since he only worked there for 15 years.
Anywho, during all that, he landed a $15 an hr cash job wrenching..... He's the guy that had some 500+ inch Blowpar wedge pro built and all he had to do was drop it in. It was dyno tuned, 661 HP. He drove the Car on the street for a few weeks "working the bugs out" Just to add, this car is a show piece. Not a scratch on it.... 100K car easy. $1800 headers, etc.
His first pass down the track, 12.9 full hooking. Second pass, 18.2. I never saw him again.....
Prior to the track, I stopped at his shop, where he has his own customers. He was throwing a Pig into a 8 3/4 Fagpar. The Customer just walked in with the gasket and grease. ol' 12.9 hold the gasket up, one bolt hole is staggered. he keeps trying to line that hole up spinning the gasket. He tells the guy, "I think they gave you the wrong one" I said "flip the gasket over to the other side" Whaa Laa, it fit perfect.
yet I get offers of 11 an hr and no bennies to be a Master Tech/Fabricator in a RV/heavy equipment shop, which makes anything in the Automotive field look like a complete, skilless, joke.. I've never had a customer return in my fucking life. Yet it's pieces of shit that have a return on every other job make the good money. What a fucked world, and most business owners are stupid pieces of shit.
But then again, he's likable, I'm not. It's not about quality timely work and making money, it's about Homosexual attraction to the Gay you hired.

The new Neighbor makes good money, he's 22. I just listened to his Diesel truck "idle" at 3000 rpm for the past half hour.
Yesterday I hear all this car door slamming, like 22 times. Then I hear it across the street. Here him and his Woman loaded their Dogs up in her car, drove 50' to park across the street in the Church parking lot. They got out, crossed back to our side of the road, and walked up to the intersection and made a Left on to the side road. That made so much sense. Now they have limestone and mud paw prints all through the car, to save walking 50' on their 5 mile hike.
He's a complete stupid fuck, not worth 50 cents a day, in a sane world. But in this World.... well...... he's worth 200 an hr
