Glad I'm not the only one on this. I had 3 Chebby inline 6 bangers. a 230 and two 250s. Complete carb to oil pan, starter to Alternator. I wanted $125 for all 3. The starters/flexplates and alternators shoulda been worth that alone. They all work on SBC...... I couldn't even get $50. So I yanked the starters, alts, Flexplates, carbs and "dizzys" and scraped the rest. It amazes me how some get $300+ out of a wore out ol' 232, then some have to scrap them.... theamcforum.com/forum/196-ohv-engine-for-sale_topic117037.html

I've never been able to hurt one even running it 2 gallon low on Coolant while hauling 1800lbs of Limestone..... But GB's Sister overheated and destroyed 2 258s.

Only ever had one Chevy sicks banger. A 292 in a '62 half ton long bed pickup. Gutless turd it was, even by 258 standards. Durable as all hell though.

I just read the 292s snap cranks, and a 250's is good to 1000hp. FWIW

One time I had to get Limestone for my Drive, I pulled up to a Stop Sign after pulling a steep hill with the load, and the temp gauge was slightly above half. This Truck never went above 1/4. I went hmmmmm. Hit the highway and she went down to 1/8 again. Got home, checked the rad, nothing, added a gallon, nothing, added another. I'd change the oil once a year wether it needed it or not, could have 10,000 miles on it.... and never checked any other fluids except at the oil change, or if it made a noise, brakes felt soft, or the gauge acted funny. I always wanted to V8 Swap the Truck, so I didn't care about the Mill. ut I learned the 250s are basically air cooled engines that day. It was in the upper 80s that day as well.

That 292 we had didn't produce enough torque to snap a #2 pencil, let alone a crankshaft. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's harmonics that breaks cranks.

lol
I guess I'm glad we missed out on a couple 292 for the Kid's truck. Lots of people thought my 250 was a V8 the way it ran. 78 Shortbed, heavy half 3.73 Auto, I hauled a 3400lb car on a heavy Uhaul trailer thru the W.PA hills with it with no problems. I just wanted V8 sound. The buzzing sucked.
