My 48 year old starter solenoid works fine on the 74 Javelin, but sure looks like ass even after a sandblast.
Replacement solenoid #1 from APD stayed hot on the ignition post after the key was turned off causing the engine to stay running until the small ignition wire was pulled off the solenoid terminal. After a call to Doug at APD, I was told that he'd never had a problem before, and there were no returns on electrical parts.
Solenoid #2 was purchased today from Autozone, the "premium" Duralast. It was shorted between the battery terminal and starter wire terminal, causing a huge arc and constant starter engagement as soon as I hooked up the battery cable. Good thing I made sure the car was in nuetral!
SO- what the F are you guys using for quality solenoids?? EVERY online review of every single solenoid says they SUCK. Yeah, I can spray paint the old original one, but it will still look spray painted. I want a nice, black moulded color solenoid that just WORKS!

Jeff Devers was selling some new Echlin brand ones at the AMO show so I bought a couple. Not sure if they are any good or not but you can try them

Shot in the dark, but Ford's in that era used the same piece. Maybe a Ford resto vendor or anyone on eBay with an NOS blue oval piece
