Reb came to my house! Weather was poor. I was in bad shape. I got the hell beat out of my face thursday night and was looking pretty scary. But thats another story. Anyways Reb brought me some really cool stuff. An old school valve grinder and seat grinding kit, a couple rear axles to work on for his rebel, and a really nice pair of 1970 304 heads! Really excited about the heads too. I guess the stars aligned in the universe. We had a little show and tell session and such , then off he went back to kansas. Its been raining like seattle here all day, and i havent done anything. My nose is bleeding down my throat and i dont feel really motivated which is crummy cuz gad is a comin up quick. Reb visited with ACM yesterday and picked up a coil spring big car axle assembly, and needs the powr-lok taken from an early jav axle, mated up to some 354 grars from SC397, and put in this big rear for his rebel. Look for pics of this in upcoming topic(s) . Should be interesting.

It was really cool to meet you. Hopefully next time we can hang out and actually do something with a car, or drink some beer or something. I just got home about an hour ago.

I enjoyed it a great deal myself. The weather was very poor and i was a mess physically nevertheless it was very nice to meet Reb ( aka arthur) after all thse years. It was a lot like christmas with him bringing forth some very fine and well recieved relics for contemplation study craft and enjoyment and i feel blessed and indebted to return his generous act. I would also like to thank ACM ( aka Andy) for his part in the event. It is also good to know Reb is home on time with no problems. The rain has stopped today and with the help of some excedrin migraine relief i hope to get back to my regular routines. I got a million things going on and little time or physical resource to finish them.

It was also nice to meet Andy (acm). He's a cool guy, and generous as well. It was hard to get out of both places in a timely manner, as it was easy to chit chat all day.

The distance between us is a great amc road trip motivator. A reason to drive an old amc on old highways for visits. Long distance freindships are a challenge but rewarding also. Just an idea. Reb really aint all that far from me now.

Tell me what you know about these 304 heads. They are in amazing condition. They have been milled, cut for positive valve seals, seats are in good condition, aside from the guides i could put assemble them with valves and springs and run them. Really usefull stuff indeed.

The guy I bought the transfer case from just through them in with it when Andy picked it up for me. He just asked me if I wanted some old 304 heads he wasn't going to use, and I'm like "sure, why not?" All of it has been sitting in Andy's trailer since last summer, IIRC.

Glad that you made it down this way Reb. It was great meeting you and your wife. To bad it turned out spud couldn't make it and hope he heals up quickly.
When I picked up the heads the guy said that he had them rebuilt about 10 years ago and that they were in a mud toy. They were wrapped up in cardboard and he didn't go into anymore detail, so not much help there. Guy seemed pretty decent though.
Hopefully I'll see you both a GAD.

I can tell they were run offroad from the dirt deposits. Theres also a tiny bit of port grinding just below the seats. Comparing the combustion chambers to the later design chambers is interesting. They are exactly the same shape and size, the smaller chamber has more metal in areas around the valves and the spark plug boss is closer to the piston. The bigger chamber is much more clutter free and looks like it would be less intrusive around the seats and flow better. Interesting also is both chambers are exactly the same size and width as big valve chambers. They are exactly 4 inches wide , and this allows 1/8 inch more chamber on each side, that overlaps the 3.750 bore. So the chamber is much bigger than the cylinder it sits on, which is odd, and certainly creates some flow/ combustion peculiarities. Not a great feature in my imagination. But what can i know about it. I doubt it has advantage. But i could be wrong. All i can envision is problem with intake flow, but then again its not in a critical flow area. Very thought provoking oddity of this engine. Obviously a compromise from using the same basic head coring as the bigger bore engines
