with a purchase in mind. atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/cto/3055638084.htmlSo I call Bob and ask him about the SST Javelin. He says 100% rust free, back bumper has damage could be straightened up by a professional. Original 360 car, auto, floor shift, new brakes, front end rebuilt etc etc. Interior is green, needs redone many new parts. The guy has some health issues and needs to part with a few projects. I'm the kind of guy that will give him the full purchase if the car is 100% rust free, but just wanted to see what you guys thought on the price.

Looks like a good car but be careful... primer hides lots of flaws. She looked good. Good description by owner. Floor pans, trunk, quarters, rockers and under the doors really solid. All window channels were in great shape the chrome was off and no rust. He also had much more then what the post said including transmission, 030 over TRW pistons pressed on rods with new rings, drive shaft , floor console with shifter, new rim blow steering wheel etc., etc. The dash was excellent, but the door panels had some cracks and the front grill insert had several cracks. Original light green car with green interior. Had the original 360 sticker on it, but I believe the trans is a 904 (it was buried under some plastic) and I saw the two barrel intake, crank and some other stuff. All of the front suspension rubber components have been replaced I think it's worth the price for the condition, but I need to research how much it's going to cost to replace what is bad including back bumper, door panels etc, etc.. Maybe she will be next to this one in the garage this weekend>

If the trans is original from the car it would be the Borg Warner automatic. Cast iron case and aluminum tail shaft. It is similar to the ford FMX. They are ok for normal driving but nobody uses those for racing. AMC used that transmission from 1967 to 1971. It is still a buyer's market so, I wouldn't be afraid to offer him a lot less cash and see what he does. If it was a AMX version yea, it would be worth more. On the other hand, there is a lot that could be said for a rust free body. Rear bumpers are no problem. They are the same on the Javelin's and AMX's from 1968 through 1974 with different bumper guards. I have a stack of cores if you need one. I was lucky enough to see the big brown bomber in person and the photos don't lie. It is a really nice car!

I kind of went full circle on this one after thinking about it for a few days. I had to grab something out of my Ambo last night and when I opened the door it occurred to me that I purchased this running 34K mile car for the same amount of $3,500 + the $900.00 in shipping. Everything on this Ambo is almost perfect less some minor rear quarter fender repairs, minor seat flaws and vinyl top.
What really got me was the lack of availability for parts on a Javelin or better yet what the parts are selling for if you can find them. I only saw one grill posted some where on line and it was $900.00 restored. Although this body is perfect what you can find is good body parts or reproduction body parts.
I'll probably piss the guy off, but I am going tell him if he has trouble selling it I will give him $1,500.00 for it.
Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes when there close to the house they seem like a better deal because you can actually see what your buying, but as pointed out in this thread there are much better deals out there.
