Hoping someone might share their experience with a 2.0 journal stock crank. My 401 is a race combo built in 1989/90 that came in an AMX drag car purchased in 91. It is a stock stroke 401 w/ 2.0 journals, Manley 6.0 chevy aluminum rods and Venolia pistons (1.35 ch). Crank cleaned up -.040 mains & -.020 rods. Changing to steel rods.
My crank machinist noted the rod journals don't have a radius....... (the chevy rod was turned around and was not chamfered)
Has anyone else run a crank machined like this w/o the rod radius? Did it hold up?

All of the 2.00" journal cranks around here are also stroked to 3.80~3.90", mostly 3.850". And all of them have a large radius. They are used with SBC rods put in the standard direction. I can say that we have not had any issues with this combo. BUT, as I said, they ALL have a large radius. No idea how well that will hold up but it sure isn't the right way to do it.

IMHO, if you are changing rods and want the build to be done correctly, I would probably sell it with the pistons and rods as a package. Then build the engine the way you think it should be done. But remember, there is never a guarantee with an OEM crank even with a nice radius.

I could sell the crank and rods as a package. Don't have 8 good pistons. Only had 20 passes on this combo.
