Here are some pics of the headers that spud is building for his "monster" 304.

Looks pretty nice so far! I'm going to have to steal that idea of using the spring clamp to mark the cuts.

Wow, very nice and cool. The Spud has a working man's garage. You can see stuff get's built in there. Not no fancy Mancave with spotless walls floors and no scratches on the vice IF they have one.

What's up with the brazing rod? No welder?

What's up with the brazing rod? No welder? Ed turned me on to brazing the tubes in from the outside. It makes for a quieter header, it fills a gap that rusts, its lower heat to keep from warpin tubes and shit, it flows out cleaner for bolt clearance, and allows you to do some port shaping without making a leak, it gets bewteen the twin center ports well, and i like brazing. Yeah i coulda mig welded it. But i always make a fuck of a mess with that wire welder. I left one of the twin center port tubes out on porpose to allow welding a tube onto that stub tube... the last part i weld in will be the missing stub tube... you will see. Lots of fun to go! I spend yesterday grinding spark plug socket clearance into that bulky ass flange, then grinding some clearance in for the headbolts... it got so tiresome i decided i need small 5/8 hex spark plugs. Anybody got a part number fro some good small spark plugs?

Yeah but in the end you get a lot better scavenging and power than a shitty production hedman. You will see! These are 1-1/2 tube primaries, small for a reason. Gonna be a long 40” These will be my best guess tune for torque on a 5500 max rpm 304... 1.4 inch valve... gonna be some surprises ahead . Ya just cant get anything like this without spending a lot of money for a custom header.

I really like this build, and what I'm hearing and seeing so far.
This ain't no wrestling with a dipstick tube, or what oil/mods thread. Don't think I ever saw a header build thread on gAyMC
Thanks to Aussie Grem, we see headers are worth way more on the track than the dyno. 1 full second in the 1/4 mile. Dyno tells ya what, 15 HP?
Like the EngineFagsters header tube smash vid. This is why I wanted my buds log book really bad. His G/F drove his Grem over a curb and dent ONE tube halfway in. His Car went noticeably slower in the 1/4 mile, so he bought a new set of headers. He didn't bother fixing that tube and I wasn't smart enough to grab his old headers.......
Anywho, Enginefasters were smashing all the tubes in all over the place and lost one HP. Go do that shit at the Track instead.

Yeah i dunno about the header bash show. I dont really totally believe that video. Serious tuners go to a lot of trouble sorting the exhaust tune, and with an open exhaust there is real power to be had when the tune is happy. Exhaust tuning is some serious alchemy, and they do a lot of trial and error. So im going with general good ideas, and it will have mufflers so its an experiment, but its cool so is the 304. Sure i could just slap some 2$ hedmans on there, but im trying to do things my way, and i can do a LOT better than ...too big a tube ...fits all ...looks like a header ...bullshit. I think thats where the 304 gets a bad deal. Most of the shit you can buy is not really good for a 304... it just fits is all. I’m tinkering with a 304. Serious tinkering but still. So im an old man now, and have enough humility in my ego to understand i think , more so than know, but one thing i know is this. I will opt for velocity in flow anyday over big flow. This exhaust is focus on velocity. Look at the pinched off hedman port, with a tight sideways radius after that crappy port match, then a big ass 1.625 tube for the death punch, to scavenge a killer dogleg amc port with a 1.4 inch valve in it. It just aint gonna work jethro. I THINK my homemade shits gonna kick hedmans ass.

They will absolutely kick hedmans ass. I had close to 20 hours in a set of Hedmans grinding and welding on them to port/gasket match them before having them ceramic coated. They were going on one of SC397's killer 383 stroker motors, and there was NO WAY I was going to use them "as is".
Probably added 2 pounds of weld..

I too have welded and gasket matched Hedmans. It is a bit of a chore, and you still have a one size fits some solution.
