My 05 GTP with 254,000 had a nice meltdown today. First I head to town, she won't hold a gear. Shifting up and down. Then I go to NAPA, come out, she doesn't want to start and just catchs and fires. Black smoke every where, idling at 3500 rpm and no temp gauge. Drop her in gear and go while the getting is good.
She surges some driving while idling high in gear. Temp gauges comes back up, but goes away when I step on the gas.
Get home, unhook the battery to reset her. Now won't start at all. Just cranks. Gonna let her cool and try again.
Can't find anything online about it. This is gonna be fun.

After 15 years and 254K miles, I'd say you got your money's worth. That's about as helpful as I can be, sorry.

lol It fired back up after cooling. White spark. Temp gauge goes to rest when you hit the gas. Gonna search the grounds...
Fule Pressure is 55 with the key on, 60 when running. That's backwards. May need a new fuel pump/regulator unit.

Thank's Spud. Gotta get a scanner. I'm expected to perform miracles around here without one.

White spark. Is that a pet name for the car or something?

I bought a blue point scanner from the snap off guy. Paid for itself quick. If you google you can find a process to trigger your check engine lite to blip out codes and then google up obd2 codes . You getting a check engine light? If no check engine light...You may be having a electic problem and not down to electronic , so the power/ ground checks you are thinking may be the right track... fuse/ relay box is a good place for that...

No engine light.
She's old and sits outside, so rust/corrosion somewhere, me thinks.

I've seen more problems caused by connection issues than anything else. Dirty switches, corroded connectors, loose connectors, cracked solder joints on circuit boards, wires broken inside the insulation, etc.

I redid/cleaned the grounds, checked all the connections. It's no better, that's all I can do besides throw parts at it. Time for the crusher.

A buddy came out with his scanner. We found the coolant temp sensor wires burned/shorted on the crossover pipe. Hopefully this fixes it once I get the part.
