A buddy from High School just built this car this year. It was "finished" a few hours before Drag Week Started. 6.0 LS and here's the results. His G/F raced it.

Best of 10.24....
Next year will be better after some more tweaking on this combo.

He wanted Ugly, Fast and Cheap. He's been around the Car game a long time and has his connections. They started in the high 11s. then got it down to the low 10s during the week. So there's more to come.

I love that people will be all exited that an AMC won at Drag Week, then they'll find out it's LS powered and their balloon will pop. All the moaning and groaning will start and their agony feeds my dark Heart and Soul with joy. lol

He bought that tunnel ram at a Swap Meet, so it's not even new. Paid less than the new Intake will cost. He paid $300 for the running 6.0 with 120,000 miles on it, while guys want $500 for a 401 that needs 8 sleeves. I'm sure one of our fav AMC flippers woulda sold him one of his 5 Tunnel Rams for a couple of grand.

They just posted this on all motors. Have to see if there's any moaning. Then hear how an AMC woulda ran 7s, got 30 mpg, all for $600 lock stock and barrel.

Honest hot rodding as far back as it goes dictates using a light , compact, cheap and disposable chassis and installing a cheap available powerful drivetrain. Amc people have a multitude of laments, its not 1972 anymore, amc is long gone, plastic parts turn to dust. Etc etc. they are gonna bitch and have a million bitches to bitch about. Drag racing moved on from amc’s 15 minutes of fame 40 years ago. Its 2019. Snap out of it. Nobody races model t’s anymore .

Yup. Nobody is lamenting the demise of the Ford flathead anymore. Rendered instantly obsolete by OHV V-8s in the early 1950s. LS/Coyote/modern "hemi" pretty much render all our junk obsolete. Someday it all will be obsolete too.

Its the absolute essence and concept of rodding to use a modern powerplant. An engine that replaces the obsolete burner the car was built with. Old fours and sixes got scrapped for a flatty, then those got shitcanned for an ohv chevy, cad , nailhead whatever, those got ditched for 60’s to early 70’s muscle, then the great emptiness of the smog era kept things the same , with the aftermarket keeping the tired old musclecar era burners supported, now that there is real muscle again, it will be the future. Old engine tech is old and ripe for replacement. Old muscle is now antique muscle.

The race of gentleman (TROG). they race them on a beach somewhere, with some hottie doing the flag drop.
