Since the legendary God, Rob Carrico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said he had 100s of Big Block Chevelles in his town alone. How many did you have in your town? I knew of 3 BBC Chevelles in my entire County and I was on the streets every night. Most were 350 Cars, or 307 if still stock. I also worked in a Full Serve Gas station for a decade. I was under plenty of hoods.

A friend of mine had a '70 SS 396 4spd car. Since he was about 20 years older than me, we never ran 'em. One kid in high school had a '67 (that his dad paid for) with a 427/auto. It ran high 11s (allegedly) in '88-'89. Another acquaintance had a '70 with a .030 over 454/auto. He so couldn't drive that I could dust him in the 1/8th with my 360 Matador. In a full 1/4, he would blow past me at a very high rate of speed about 200 feet from the finish line. He refused to run against my Coronet. I never could line up against "Mr. Quick" in his '67 with my Dodge either. I think that would have been interesting. Thinking back, it's kinda funny how everyone was eager to run against my Matador, but hardly anyone would run against the Coronet.

High school friend had a 1969 SS 396 Nova 4-Speed. Still has it, but it's in shambles. Fail to understand why he does nothing with it when he has the means to do so... I got my license only a few months before leaving town for college in Aug 1980 in a 1970 Pontiac LeMans 6-cyl auto. My interest in hot rods kinda started about the same time, so I was at a loss, clueless, as to who had what in my little ol' home town of Charleston WV before then, and then I left... And the "college kids" in 'Nati were NOT into hot rods... After a couple frustrating years at college, which I did not finish, I finally found my way, bought an AMX in '85, and discovered real people in 'Nati at Edgewater, thank goodness. There were quite a few big blocks, but 'Nati is a pretty big place. No Chevelle, but in hindsight guess I coulda put a big block in the ol' Indian ?...

I am older than dirt so I remember when the "Heavy Chevys" roamed the earth. It was basically 50/50 mix between small block and big block chebbys around here. I worked with a guy who street raced a 428 poncho in a 69 firechicken. Low rpm engine but had ok power. I could have beat him with a 401 powered AMX.
