I am having my 1974 Javelin restored. I am the original owner of this car, special ordered it in May 1974, and took delivery in July 1974. Car has a 360 V8, 2 barrel, 727 floor automatic, A/C, Motorola Multiplex AM Radio w/8-Track that still sounds great. This restoration started backin June 2012, when I took the Javelin to the initial bodyshop, and I had to pick ed car up and take it to the present bodyshop this past July. There have been "ALOT" of headaches, and uphill battles, but I believe the finish line is in sight. Here are a few photos of the car:

I like the way the wheels tie into the paint. That's a Great color!

The color of the Javelin was selected by my wife, it is G-4 Plum, this was the original factory color. The wheels were originally silver, but the wife wanted the wheels painted to match the color of the car. The restoration of this car has been a "Sometimes Bumpy Experience".... I initially took the low bid on the restoration and left the car at the first bodyshop. The agreement was that they woudl work on the car as a part-time project, and this was acceptable, as we were not in any hurry for the job to get finished. After a few months, I realized that the bodyshop was not doing anything to the car, it was just sitting in their shop. Everytime I would ask them, I was given an excuse and promised they would work on the car in afew days. I took the people at their word, which was a mistake. Finally after waiting about 1 year (which was 6 months too long), I picked the Javelin up and took it to another person that restored old cars. When I picked the car up, it was in a 1000 pieces, nothing labeled, screws/clamps, etc just thrown in floorboards, all the chrome trim thrown in the trunk, even the radiator was just laying in the back seat. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE! Everything like a jigsaw puzzle. They even had big dogs in the shop at night and they pissed on all the wheels and rusted them. This second bodyshop had many years experience on mainly corvette restorations, but never worked on any model AMC, but he took the project in. I know that most bodyshops would not of accepted the job with the shape the car was in. Like I said, the only reason we are restoring this car is as we are the original owners of this car, my wife has a special sentimental attachment to it. We still have all the original paperwork: special order form, window sticker, manuals, plastic warranty cards, etc WE EVEN HAVE 2 CAR BUILD ORDER SHEETS FOR THIS CAR: Bodyman found the main build sheet behind the rear seat springs, but he also found a build sheet under the driver's side front carpet, close to the floor console. Both are a little frail, but still readable. I never knew these cars had 2 build sheets, the one found under the front carpet is just for the interior items: seats, carpet, steering wheel, etc. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the work the 2nd bodyshop has done. They are charging alot more, but I believe the job will be done right. Thanks, Dickie

Sorry for that BS with the 1st body shop. I have a similar story. Points to your good lady for color choice. Hey did you ever find a block style steering wheel? I still have this one. Asking price is still the same... even trade, One complete wheel for one complete wheel.

The wife's Javelin was completed a few weeks back. Considering all that has befled us along this journey, I feel the job turned out pretty good. We are still ironing out a few things, but as we drive the Javelin more, it seems everything is falling into place.
