After Cryco took over, by 1990 they changed the 360 embossment on the side of the block to 5.9L. They also made some other changes. They removed the 2 core plugs at the rear of the block which seems strange to me. IMG_3770 by Rick Jones, on Flickr They enlarged the oil drain-back holes in the valley area. IMG_3769 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Check out the video to see why thiss one was pulled.. IMG_3768 by Rick Jones, on Flickr Obvious reasons. The engine had it's original bearings so it is not like someone screwed it up. IMG_3771 by Rick Jones, on Flickr IMG_3772 by Rick Jones, on Flickr

Thats not wear. They ground the thrust journal that way

They put it together with ~.125" of thrust clearance?

Bore it +.030" to 4.11", and offset grind it +.010" to 3.46", and make it a true 6.0 Liter... 4.11 Bore x 3.46 Stroke = 367.231 C.I., 61.0237 C.I.'s per Liter * 6 Liters = 366.1422 C.I

You forgot the part where we have to add 1/8" of material to the thrust journal of the crank. 304/360 cranks are still too cheap to be making that kind of repair. Besides, maybe the crank was part of the problem. I have seen one wear before but not nearly as bad and it was in front of a 4 speed and had like 60,000 miles on it. Interesting that once it wore the bearing material off, the cast iron gave up instead of the bearing casing.

The bearing shell is steel. The crank is a soft malleable cast iron. It aint none too tough thats for sure. I bet some chryco acidhead was thinking Sbm sizing when he programmed that batch of cranks. Obviously the weedhead that installed it was toasty.

Someone may have ran it out of oil to start the sequence of failures. The oil drain plug is over size. The oil holes to the mains were clear and ok. Someone had put a timing set in it with a after market timing cover. They pulled the locating dowels and forgot the two bottom bolts. It has original bearings but they are shot.

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist tearing it down.. How much had the chain stretched? Before Rick and I pulled it, i tried to spin the tires in the grass and it wouldn't do it. It barely went up the ramps on my lift.

Fine, don't answer my question. Prick. I'll try again, what about the timing gears? We found the weird wear pattern on the HEI distributor, but what about the cam side? Any idea if it's the distributor or the cover (or both) that's junk?

Ok Miss Pissypants.. Yes the timing set had been replaced and the chain was stretched pretty good. The distributor gear on the cam is junk. Someone replaced the timing cover with a aftermarket one and not only did they leave the locating dowels out, they left the two bottom bolts out as well. I am not going to use it again. I was trying to salvage the block pistons and rods for a Slawson Mobile but one piston is scuffed pretty good and the cylinder walls are scratched more than what a hone will take out.

Was messing with the Novak in-tank fuel pump he bought for it. Not impressed so far. You have to partially disassemble it to get it to fit in the sending unit hole, and it's just a hacked up factory sending unit with a pump attached..
What i found interesting, was the access hole above the sending unit in the floor of the Jeep. Did they all have these, or was Chrysler planning a fuel injected Waggy? The access hole is useless for this set up..
