Started Wednesday morning out with a big breakfast because it was my last meal before my surgery on Thursday. Was on liquid diet for 24 hrs along with not one but two fleet enemas before the procedure. The only nourishment I had in those 24 hours was a couple of beers at n2oJoe's and a can of chicken broth. Oops wasn't suppose to have alcohol but trust me I needed a little bracer for this one. Of course I was hitting the can every hour or two at the most throughout the night. Yesterday, I went in at 7:30, they put me under at 9:30, installed 64 radioactive seeds through my scrotum, and started waking me up at 1.00. That 3 1/2 hours of sleep was the most sleep I have had at one time in months.. They said everything went well and that my prostate is small which is good I guess. After the female nurse pulled the catheter out and I could pee in a cup for her I was released to go home at 2:30. I ate half a sandwich at 3:30, drank about a gallon of water, and dozed off and on until about 5:00 and figured that I should try to pee. Save the details but that was the start of having to go every 15 min and only dispersing about 2 T spoons at a time. Forgot to add that I was really congested up from the oxygen so every time I coughed which was constant, just added to the urgency. I was finally able to sit in the LaZboy and time it all so that I could go every half hour. By 5 A.M. I actually laid down and fell a sleep for an hour. Sitting on a pillow right now but not taking pain pills so far. Just had my second cup of coffee and trying to decide if I should be hungry or not. The next and I hope final torture session is Aug 26.

One Week latter.. The first 36 hours after the surgery were the worst. I guess I should have taken more than 1/2 a pain pill for two nights. Peeing was a real pain, literally. I can't remember anything else ever hurting that bad but I made it through it. Still sitting on a pillow but the pee pain is almost gone. I actually walked two miles yesterday without gasping for air. Things are still tender but I would say I am about 95% pain free. I took the last whoremoan pill a month ago but I am still getting the hot flashes every hour or two during the night. I think that they are getting less intense now though. I have one more miserable appointment left but basically I think I am on the mend.

Well hopefully yesterday was my last torture visit to the Doctor. They drew blood to test my PSA level and they filled my bladder with die via my Pecker so they could take a x-ray of my prostate to make sure the seeds are where they are suppose to be. Did I mention that it was 3 woman nurses who did the work? Yea embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe... Plus, it was kind of a pain in the dick. Good news is the Doctor said that it looked picture perfect. I asked them how many needles did it take to implant 64 seeds. He said they used 18 needles. - No wonder the o'l scrotum was a little tender for a few days.. I called in and got the best news today!! Amazing enough, my Liver is in the normal range.. And better yet, my PSA number is less than .01!!!!!!!!!!!! (It started at 8.9) The Doc said that once the whoremoan medication wears of it will go up a little but they will monitor it every 6 months for who knows how long.. I took the last whoremoan pill on July 6 but it is still affecting me. That along with the flowmax pill nails me pretty good sometimes. The Doc said I can take the flomax pill every other day starting Monday so I hope that will help me feel better. I consider myself lucky that it wasn't worse than it could have been. I am also really happy that I took this rout rather than have surgery. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys. I really appreciate it.

That's great news Rick! I am glad that all of the treatment has been working, even though you had to put up with the little problems. My wife is a cancer survivor and we had to tolerate a lot different types of treatment for a few months after she was diagnosed, but she has been cancer free for 18 years now. She still gets her check ups every so often but the worst is all a distant memory now....

Went to my regular Doctor a couple of weeks ago and found out that my cholesterol jumped up to 260. He doubled my dosage for it last year and it still went up. He told me to eat better and exercise before he puts me on a stress test. I told him that I get winded really easily. I am trying to figure out how much of that is due to the flowmax pulls. My Grandpa told me not to get old... Anyway, I spent last week at the cabin ripping and routing lumber to make window and door trim. It doesn't seem possible but I am almost finished with the inside. I have to put polyurethane on the window trim and a few other minor things. Here is another progress video of the shack. IMG_5477 by Rick Jones, on Flickr
