Had to sign up for Medicare today, 3 months before I turn 65. And just in time for the final chapter of Doctor's bills. It sucks to get old. Of course to get 100% of the Social Security payments, I am suppose to wait until I am 67 and 4 months. My best hope is to start collecting next year and get 90% of it.

And to add misery to getting old, here rest of the story.... I found out that I have Prostate cancer last fall. I will save you most of the drama of being 64, paying for cheap insurance where you have to ask for a itemized bill or insurance claim form because the doctors and hospitals will not bill the insurance company direct. This is after they bill me direct the first time. I have to call them back and asked for a itemized bill and once I get it I have to mail that to the insurance company. Then, the insurance company will take 90 days to pay it or not. Needless to say I had 15K worth the hospital and doctors bills in January. Mind you that my insurance was done on Jan 28 and they wouldn't renew it because I was going on Medicare in March. So I was without insurance for the month of February and I wanted to get a second opinion. Another $1,500.00 out of pocket for a 20 minute consultation. I think the bill is down to about 7K now and I get phone messages from the bill collectors every week or so. I am refusing to pay on any of it until after the insurance company pay's for their part. So I spend several hours a week trying to figure out what is paid and what is not. Yea it sucks...
I decided to go with the multi phase plan of hormone injection and pills, pin point radiation (5 days a week for 5 weeks), and eventual radioactive seeds. I have been on the whoremoan pills for a month now and two weeks ago they implanted 3 gold markers in my prostate which meant a ultrasound up my ass and 3 needles through my scrotum. The gold markers are inserted so they can find them for reference points to do a 3D model to be able to pin point the radar gun. Last week's torture session involved a catheter and getting me set up for the radiation treatments. It was great, 3 woman doing all the work and it was about 12 degrees in the room. They also made a vacuum formed mold for my legs and put 3 small tattoo dots on me so the ray gun can zero right in. I figure I will have Tri-Poised Power when all is said and done. Next phase is the 5 days a week for 5 seeks radiation treatments. They start on June 1st.
Sorry about the manuscript. I am not on facepage any more so word doesn't get around very fast besides, I have been in denial for the first couple of months. When I was diagnosed I felt fine with no symptoms whatsoever. Now the whoremoan pills are kicking in and it screws with my sleep not to mention what it is doing to my testosterone. Killing the testosterone is part of the plan which I have to live with but the hot and cold flashes suck. I sleep for a hour, wake up sweating to death then cool off to the point of being cold. Then repeat the process for the next hour.
Needless to say I am throttleing way back on engine building down to friends and family. I need to finish the projects in my shop for other people and focus on my own toys. My escape since I was diagnosed has been going up north and working on my cabin. The outside still looks like hell but the inside is looking pretty sweet.

This is terrible news Rick and so sorry to hear this. Hopefully the insurance steps up and takes that stress out of the way and lets you focus on the treatment.

Thanks Guys. Heading out for a evening at Mikey's (GAD) then a 10 hour drive on Friday to KC for a wedding on Saturday. I have to be back by Tuesday to start the radiation.

Well that sux.... I hope everything works out for you especially since they are putting you through this hell. It's bad enough that they stress you out with all of the medical procedures but to couple that with the financial stress is more than anyone should have to put up with. I know the alternative is not a choice any of us want to make so I hope you get well....

It's upsetting seeing anyone I know having to deal with medical issues. Unfortunately at my age, I keep seeing more. Over the last year, Ive already lost one close friend of the family who was also a former AMC driveline engineer. Prior to that was my wife's cancer diagnosis which so far has been clear since treatment.

Stay on the horse rick. Just dont let em jab you with the covid vax. I find myself talking to the invisible guy more and more these days. I’ll surely say a prayer to him for you. We all sign the timecard and hand it to him when he sez so. I keep askin to get fired so he keeps me on the job. Reverse psycology.
