After a long winter of wrenching looks like I have most of the bugs worked out. Hydraulic clutch works. Engine leaks are stopped. It was like a contest as to which could make a bigger puddle. Timing cover or rear main. A lot of adjusting on the driveline angles. I'll safely say the pinion angle was crap from the factory. Was at half a degree. Probably why they had a bastard driveshaft in there with the joints 45 degrees out of phase for a bandaid to speed up the ass'y line. Took a 1/4 inch of shim out of the 4 link rear to make it right at the book 2.5 degree. Engine runs strong with the old AFB and iron intake.

Now you know we want a lot more detail than that little teaser.

Details. Lots of work and rework. Hydraulics are an AMC Eagle master, slave, bell and fork. Flywheel is from a 390 and match balanced to the OE flex plate. Crank bushing is for a Jeep/Eagle. Same as the Jeep bearing retainer on the Ford T5. Driver side exhaust pipe from the log manifold had to be cut and several sections welded in to go around the slave cylinder. Pipe is also heat wrapped. Had to build a 12 degree angled master cylinder mount to get the pushrod within 2-1/2 inches of the pedal pivot point to be close to the correct ratio. If I didn't have the hydroboost brakes, I would have been screwed for a mounting place for the master. Pedals are 70 AMX . Cut off the original mechanical linkage pieces. Added my own 3/8 thick mount point for the 3/8 heim joint. Had to weld a tab on the brake pedal to hit the OE brake switch. Neutral safety and backup light switch are on the trans instead of the steering column. Made a short harness to go from the Ford switches through the firewall and plugs into the 70 body harness.

Since the engine only leaked where it held fluids, I reached all gaskets and seals. This 70 is an early build. Since it was apart, I picked up the early large port intake and dropped it off to be tanked. For a street car I went with the. AFB from a 390. Just so it looks like it belonged there, I replaced the 2 barrel lines with re-pops for the 69 4 barrel. Even stuck a Carter pump on it so I didn't have to hack it up. We went on an archeological dig in the attic and found my original 69 4 barrel air filter that fit the early Carter.

The dash uses the same cluster as the Jav/AMX. When we swapped in the tilt column, I had the glove box door scanned to color match. Color is still used today. Honda ash green. The faded tag on the dash vents are still the the 52 year old mfr instructions on using the A/C.

Its rated at 300 ft lbs. i was considering putting one behind a 304 for mileage. I also thought about one behind a 4.0 for maybe a little more milage. I think of a lot of stuff to do. But generally screw up and go for power i wont really use😟

Take the timing cover bolts out one at a time and liberally coat them with red loctite as a deterrent. For the very few miles I put on, the 5th is really nice. With the 3.54's and tall rubber it's good from 40 and up in the big body. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd put the 2.87 rear back in. After all this work I don't feel like moving axles and rear discs. The early locker in the one I'm using is more like a spool. Someone rebuilt it with the wrong clutches. I can't back into the garage without the inside wheel hopping.
