You could always pay Forust $2500 to tunnel out your original 232 head.

I guess I am just curious about what it might do for my 232. It currently has an open chamber 75 year 232 head on it.16-17 mpg tops. I have considered doing a 4 litre swap to gain milage , power, driveabilty, etc. Maybe a better head would do that? Cutting 1500 bux loose makes me wonder if im just nuts.

Are you just messin' with us? You can buy a whole good running 4.0 equipped Wagoneer donor vehicle for $1500.

First of all, let's clear the air here.. YES, you are nuts but that has nothing to do with wanting to play with your engine. To me it is perfectly logical to put a $1,500.00 head on your $150.00 engine. I am sure that your great great great grandchildren will see the $0.001 savings in the improved gas milage. Oh, and don't forget to put the 4L headers on it. Now I am even more inspired to put a supercharger on my Tundra that has 286,000 miles on it!

If you're going to sell the car shortly, yes, it's a great investment.
I remember a kid on the forum that had a Rebel Wagon with a sucks in it. He did a rebuilt on the mill. Machine work and parts he had something like 2800 in the sucks. Then he turned around to sell the Wagon and had a hard time getting $1800.

Very thought invocative replys. I would like to have one. I think just maybe knowing amc folk that it might not be a hot seller. Maybel I could get one later on for less. Also since I can get one v8 eddy head for $800, thats $200 a cylinder. So the six cyl head should cost $1200 bux. But I dunno. Im still too cheap for a pair of v8 heads@$1600. But yaknow those v8 heads are lookin better now. I think my curiousity and cheap nature dictates I just rebuild the crappy used stock 96 year 4 litre head I have. It needs new everything but it shouldnt cost more that 4 or 5 hundred to rebuild.

Well, if'n I was gunna run a sicks, it would probably be a FI 4.0 or a 258 with a 4.0 head. Or a modern Nissan or Ford V-6.

I dunno. I have a pretty good pile of six cylinder junk. I nearly have a 96 4litre engine. Snag is is went underwater, and I have fixed a lot of the damage, which turned out to be pretty extensive with a broken rod and what not. The head needs fixes, since it had rusted the valve stems and is generally rusty at the seats. So I'm not far off from a running 4.0 long block. I intend to get a distributor and run the 82 year 258 water heated aluminum intake and weber carb setyup I run on the 232 now, and already have a borla header for a Jeep Wrangler, which I think might fit the javelin. I bought it for my kid's grand Cherokee, but it wouldn't fit so I kept it to try on this project. I also have a cool Clifford 4 barrel intake and 390 Holley I got from Orange 70. I'm short on a good head and was waiting to see if the eddy head was a decent alternative. I guess it might be if I had more money but it's best I keep within my theme of patched up junk on this motor. I'm not looking to make a lot of power, I have a good 401 or two here, I just want a better useable driver. I think the 4.0 would be better than the 232 at this time with the fuel we now have. I also think a good 5 cyl Mercedes diesel from years ago would be nice too but I ain't got one handy.

Diesel is the way to go, if you can find one for cheap. Think Deutz air-cooled diesel. I have no idea what will bolt up to one for a trans, though.

I like diesel power I guess. I have been a diesel engine tech for over 30 years. I know the advantages. I think a mercedes engine and trans package is very adaptable to the chassis. I havent persued it. The 5 cyl mercedes does vibrate a bit. But it also has a great trans behind it, which is a major perk. Finding a diesel with automotive automatic trans capability is tricky.
