So SC397 gets me involved another project he doesn't want to do. Sun baked but rust free '73 Hornet with a nicely built 401 and Tremec 5 spd. 9" rear with a 4 link, roll bar, fuel cell, etc etc. Anyway, worked through all the issues the owner was having with it, and now driving it about 85-90 on the E-way and it stumbles. luckily near the exit I was getting off, and a red light in the middle of the gauge pod is on. Never saw it before and the car is acting up bad now. It gets me off the exit and dies. Starts but stalls, and I realize the in-tank fuel pump isn't running. Walk to the Dollar General and buy some fucking readers so I can read the fuses..
It has a fancy Ron Francis fuse box, well labeled, nice relays and all so I'm swapping fuses and relays, still nothing. Of course it's getting dark, so i call my wife who happily drove the 10 miles to get me. I buy the most fucked up gas can I've ever seen and a condiment dispenser from Dollar General and get some gas. Use the ketchup squirter to fill the carb to see how far I can get and if it's worth it. It's not, and basically dark. I get the car to the small town Dr. office parking lot, and we head home to get a tow strap.
Discussing how to tow it home with my wife along the way. Not getting a warm fuzzy feeling this will go well. I'll just use the truck and trailer. Make a call to the owner asking about the red light, he's pretty sure it's the line lock light. Now I'm thinking there's a wiring issue behind the dash.
Back on the lift, dash all apart and tracing wires. Getting to the rear of the car since I can't find anything wrong and ready to take more trim off and THERE IT IS !! A fun little inertia switch mounted to a nice piece of sheet metal trim. I may have said a couple of bad words in general and cussing myself for being a dumbass when I pressed it and it went "click". I put 300 miles on that thing before I had the trim vibrating just right to trip the damn switch.
It's now mounted in a solid location. Guess it was a good thing, as I did find some other wiring issues along the way.
