It is just bullshit that they take the Zinc out and raise the price. Then they put it back in and jack the price even more! I know it is all about making the cadillac converters last longer and all of that but it still pisses me off. The same thing happened with leaded vs unleaded gas in the late '70's. Oil companies are poor and have to make money one way or another I guess. OK, done bitchin now..

I dunno the truth. But what I think I know is that the metallic additives are a source of " pollution" in exhaust emmissions. I have also heard they cause detrimental deposits in convertors and diesel particulate filters (dpf's) I know the diesel folk dropped the zinc and metallic hi pressure additives for that reason. When whale oil was eliminated from atf auti trans failures increased but eventually they came up with a replacement. Zddp and metallic hi pressure additives may someday be replaced, but so will the infernal combustion engine. Which is basically a piece of shit anyways. Lol.

Valvoline VR-1 is what the classic Datsun/Nissan guys run in the 80's turbo motors. Its actually a conventional with the "old" additive package in it that used to be "regular" oil. This is designated as "Off-Road Only", which means it has to be good!
