Ok since i hate machine shops now, i was thinking about dumping an assload of money for a NEWAY seat cutter kit for sbc sbf heads. It has cutters that i think will work for amc small and big valve heads. Anybody use or know of anyone who uses these? They aint cheap but nothing is anymore. I figure four or five pair of heads and they have paid for themselves. Comments? Concerns? General shittalk?

All I know is that I need to learn to use my valve machine.

I have Neway seat cutters They do ok but it takes time to cut seats with them. Only thing I can tell you is get extra blades they seem to wear pretty fast and start to chatter I usually try to use the new sharp blades in the seat angle cutter it self then when they get chatter I get more live out of them with my other angles.
Wish I had a seat and guide machine so I could make better seats.

Thank you lenni thats great info and exactly what i am looking for. What really aggravates me is the number and the quality of seat guide machines all around me, and the fact the people that own them wont use them for me. That really pisses me off. Its like i’m a lepper because i have amc. A fully equipped machine shop with dozens of machines and one lazy donut eating machinist is a total waste of the worlds time. And i cant afford to buy a 25k worn out serdi 100 to do a couple cylinder heads.

Same here man. I've looked and thought about getting a seat and guide machine for couple of years now but can't seem to convinse my self to spend the money for one mostly because I'm only building engines for my self so I always find "better" use for the money elsewhere. One thing I really need before investing in a seat and guide machine is a flow bench if anyone knows of one for a fair price please let me know

The modern seat and guide machines have had a bad effect on the old methods of cylindrr head repair. There were once great tools like the lisle 59000 valve guide boring and reaming tool. Or the winona guide repair method. They were cheap, easy and workbench freindly tool and method any home based engine guy could use. Now they are gone and you can only find the tools used. Seat and guide machines really screwed the small guys.
