Like the stamping on the last photo and on the 291C head? Or something else?

What about the big cast in "x" some early heads sported? What was that for?

Much like the Mopar 346 I'm guessing it what the certain casting numbers got for that particular casting.... Just guessing. It was funny how many Mopar guys never knew what the 2 slashes stood for on those heads. Every 346 I ever saw had them. It was cool looking IMO people thought they were "Stage II" heads.

Ok, so next thing is can someone with lots of heads confirm that earlier are 2 slash and later(dogleg) are 1 slash? I left out 290/304 because sometimes they have no slash at all and the engine I'm referring to is a destroked bigger bore engine with larger valve heads. Also, it's unimportant that the engine in question is a '69 . It's production based only and pre-production features showed up that year on these type engines before production engines received the same features.
I'll explain later, but just want some factual data without pre-conceptions about what "should be".

Welp, it's looking like a distinct marking practice before and after '70 on big valve heads.

Now, we are suppose to argue over it and re-hash everything until the cows come home..

Thats right dotty. I have a set of two slash x heads on a 68 390 I yanked out of a 68 javelin back in 1979. The car has 390 badges on the rear qwuarter so I figured it was original.

There's alotta things about originality you don't know anything about, Pee Wee( insert any of many AMC Forum nerd's names here). Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand.

I accept the mystery of amc. It fits into my big mysterious unexplainable paradigm. Its just because.

Wouldn't mind having a set of trapezoidal heads.
