Those are single rib heads. Aka srh's... not to be confused with sst's. They were cast with polyneucleictransglypherol, or Pntgp, which was hoped to be a more economical and renewable replacement for water, which it ultimately proved not to be. Early in production the new casting formula proved problematic due to the smell, which was nearly identical to that of a turkey roasting, which drove foundry workers mad with hunger, to the point of at least two cases of self canabilism. Interesting footnote indeed. Holy shit

I know it is incredible but history is like that sometimes.

^ Who wouldn't? Though I'd have have to acid dip them and then if anybody found out they'd want to dip me in sheep shit. If I had a set of trap heads, they would go on a motor, not in a museum.

Yes.I would use them too. But I would "chemically mill" them to lighten them. Probably you might understand, but a purist wouldn't.

What in the world for? Weaken your heads to save like a pound? That's just plain silly.

Penske and co. did the acid dipping of both the heads and block on Mark's Javelin. Reports said that about 100 pounds total weight difference resulted.
In checking out Nascar head photos, the castings themselves, if they share any features with the TA heads, show at least part of whatever weight savings the heads showed may have been connected to bigger ports, and reduced under valvecover cast supports, the ones that usually crack in the corners of a production head.
Unless there was some historical or production based racing I decide to enter requiring iron heads, why bother when modern design and relatively detonation resistant lighter aluminum heads are available?

I could have bought a pair last summer at NAMDRA but, they would probably end up being a wall hanger for me. You have to have a raised port intake manifold as well, right? I do have a modified Torker that would probably work but wouldn't be correct vintage stuff.

Rick, I don't have any loose early heads. Could you, when you had any time, place a passenger early head on side by side with a dogleg head like you have the AM Tech 304 heads or the Swirl port heads?
I owe you one, or two, or three favors.
