Ok. So there I was. Throttle and clutch feathered as much power as the street tires would take in third gear watching a neophyte dork walk right by me in a 2015 dodge challenger. Just to rub it in he lets off and does it again. So now my wounded ass is thinking of all the lame shit I would do to what should be a powerfull enough 401 to cover his 392 hemi. but in the end I change my mind. Its just fucking over. when a snot nose can go out and plunk down a down payment and buy a low 11 second stocker, I think the old school muscle is beat. a turnkey pushbutton plug and play digital automatic shifted traction controlled machine that a pubescent girl can drive around me is the final blow.

Is this the same Spud who was talking about turbo charging old junk? Technology marches on whether we like it or not. A friend of mine has a 2015 Scat Pak Charger, and takes me for a ride. I was surprised at how fast that thing is, and then he shows me all the data it collected, G force, estimated 1/4 mile, and yaw.. really yaw?
Last week I drove the AMX that SC397 has had at his place forever, to work. Based on Murphy's Law, I figured that was the best way to see if it was ready for the guy to pick up. Window down, gas fumes, running through the gears put a bigger smile on my face then that Scat Pak. I hope to some day be in the position to build a car again, and really want to pick the best of new tech, while wrapping it in an old AMC body. Boosted AMC would be the best..

Same spud. The think is, sure I can maybe make more power but then again can I use it? Can I put it to the pavement? Honestly the 392 does make 485 hp, and that is more than me. But I should be 500 pounds lighter. Not like he has me drastically overpowered, but im not able to drive my car on the floor. It will overpower the tires. The dodge has an 8 speed automatic, traction controll and a computer correcting the zit faced fool at the throttle. I think the dodge shifted three times to my one as it moved right by with no perceptable tire spin. It was impressive, and its a brand new car. Not a nearly 50 year old car that has been modded to be as fast as practical. The thing is technology. It would take a helluva lot of time and money to try and just equal what someone can simply buy off the showroom floor. "Its getting hard" is what I said.

It gets worse. A local kid drug a modified Scat Pak Chally's ass by 3 cars with a 2010 SHO. 4700 lbs race weight and a V6. Sad. How pathetically gay is the Hemi now?

Highlites the difference in stock and modded is all. The dodge IS a proven low 11 second ride...if you want more just blow on it, the blown 392 hellcat is 700 hp. Thats all relative. And im focused on street realities. Theres a ton of dodges fords and chevys all packin 430 horse or better out there in my area. Just one measly amc with that kind of power on the street on occasion. I have to drive it carefull or its out of control, but these new cars drive themselves. I got spanked on the highway, where im at a power advantage. Just drop into third and game on, not like it would be slipsliding from a start, where I would have REALLY had trouble against a fully automated traction controlled modern musclecar.

AWD is where it's at. A lot of V8 guys just want to put their fingers in their ears and go lah lah lah. I just try to warn them what is really out there. When someone 1.5 60's on your ass on the street, you better have 50,000 passes under your belt and be cold as ice on the nerves, or you'll blow the tires clear down to the rims. On the street 0-60 mph in 2 seconds will startled the shit out of most esp from a huge stock looking grandma 4dr.

Exactly my point. It is pretty difficult to clutch and shift a car to quick times. Now it obvious gaymc has no clue of that but thats how it is in gaymc dreamland. Nevertheless. Modern musclecars makes it easy for a mook to blow away what was once fast machinery. Its so easy a caveman could do it. Now im not sure what all went wrong for the hellcat in your video. But my experience with a plain old 392 auto challenger was a different situation.

Here's a seriously built Challenger beating a stock GT-R by .4.

My point is simply the fact that its a different world now. Once old muscle was a sure bet. Nobody challenged a solid thumping old burner. Now nobody fears an old musclecar. In order to keep up ... well you end up spending a lot of time and money to try and duplicate what people can simply buy. Granted they still fork out substantial cash, but at least the new breed of cars can pretty much drive themselves.

Don't worry, all those new cars will be in guardrails soon and then to the junkyard. Those "drive themselves" cars still can't stop from 100+ instantaneously and those idiots that drive them are so used to not doing ANYTHING that when its a little wet or there's a little gravel on the road, or some other idiot pulls out in front of them when they are "showing off" that they'll all be wrecked piles of crap in a couple years. You can't cheat physics.

Yeah spud, technology marches on. I'll prolly just keep drivin' my beaters 'cause I'll never have the $$ for a fancy self-driving rice rocket. They're still quick enough to put a smile on my face, and unique enough to get a thumbs up just about wherever I go. New Challengers, 'Stangs, and Camaros are everywhere, and pretty much passe'....no matter how fast they are.

Lol. Its all right. Back in the day they wrecked a lot of em pretty fast too. Kinda what I thought the other day when challenger boy was beating on his 392. One thing is... it really takes something more... too KEEP a powerfull machine. So that will be for the young folk with good sense and abilities to keep these new digital wonders alive. and yes reb. It is enough just to own and drive and keep alive a piece of the past. after all if my javelin wasnt interesting challenger boy wouldnt have bothered to joust with an old man in an old.... hey wtf is that?

I went through that demoralization stuff when the magazine guy came out to do the article on my SC/Rambler. Here I am thinking that this young Buck is going to be just blown away at the awesome AMC power. Right. He comes driving up in a Nissan GTR that can smoke my car with the air conditioning on. Now I can only pride myself on the fact that it took a GTR for the camera guy to keep up with me for the action shots.. Oh well, that is progress for you. The new techno stuff is amazing though.
