Because when a private person buys them, they are now worth about half of what they paid. It's like buying a car from a dealership, you're not going to get what you paid for it after it was driven or even trailered off the lot. Go buy a TV from WalMart, never use it, then try to sell it for what you paid for it. Good luck. He prolly scored these off of someone for 150-200 and you're just supporting his habit. This guy doesn't take loses on shit or only want to make 10% on something. I'd wait 6 months. theamcforum.com/forum/offy-valve-covers_topic84422.html

I bought mine for $40 at a swap meet, though I would pay Summit's price for a set if I really wanted 'em.

That's why I decided to recant my rant/explanation. If someone has the cash, they should order a few sets of these, wait till there's a shortage of them again and charge $400+ a pair if they don't mind sitting on them for a bit. Cause people have to have certain things. A certain brand of valve cover is real insignificant to me, but not to others. I'd order up some Eddy's instead, especially out of principle.
But standing in someone else's shoes, his price isn't that bad then. He could hit them up for more.

Couldn't he just use stock covers until the Offys come back into stock at Scummit, Rick? Heck, if he's patient, he could probably get a pair for $150 or less on ebay. I can't believe how cheap Torkers are selling right now on the 'bay. For the life of me, I can't fathom why anyone would run an Airgap for $600 when they can get a Torker for $150 or so.

The guy lives in Austria. I am not sure why he just doesn't do what you suggest. Maybe he can justify it because of the shipping costs, I don't know.

I need to find people like this. I just had a guy stop and look at a powder coated Performer intake for a SBM. Have it listed for $100, he offers me $60. It's 373.15 new.
What a fucking asshole.

So that's why I think anyone paying more than new for second hand pieces is a fucking idiot.
