I have finally concluded that I have way too many projects, so now I need to decide what stays and what goes. For cars, I have my eponymous '69 Rebel and I have the '73 Javelin/AMX that I bought when I was 18 (1989). The Rebel runs and drives and is pretty sound overall. But for performance (street/strip), it sucks. Shitty 2.87 rear end, shitty three link rear suspension, shitty old style trunnion front suspension, shitty drum brakes on all four corners. It would cost me thousands to deal with all of that. There is rust in the trunk and rear fenderwells.
The Javelin is all apart (long story), and has deteriorated from sitting all this time, rusty brake lines, degraded interior components, stuff like that. However, it is a 360 Go-Pack car, 3.xx twin grip rear, leaf springs, functional cowl hood, slightly less primitive suspension, lighter. It definitely drove and handled better than the Rebel. It has body damage, but minimal rust. Putting it back together will be a serious asswhip.
I have a shitload of spare parts for the Rebel. Complete front end, all of the glass, marker lights, and such.
At any rate, I think one of them needs to find a new home. Sadly there is no one withing 2000 miles who would even think of giving me a decent price for either.

Yeah but everyone knows they are worth ten times more as parts and you can ship those. So when your done and you got two naked hulls you can break out the sawzall and sell the rest as patch panels. Look at it this way, you've had em for years, have em some more just augment your income a little and make em go away at their own rate. They turn into money faster than rust. Quadruple your money over the next several years. Hell if you had pecan trees you don't cut em down for the wood ya sell the nuts.

One of 'em, I think, will get to stay. I would rather sell one to someone who has the time and $$ to do something with it.

Welp, if you are looking for a opinion... You can make good money on the AMX either in whole or in parts. Sell it off and invest that money into the Rebel to make it how you want it. I don't hate trunion cars. I used to rebuild the trunions with brass. Makes them pretty tight if you do it right.

The Javelin is a little bit sentimental, and I definitely liked the way it drives as compared with the Rebel. However, the Rebel is a better looking and better built (things like door hinges and such) car.

Drove it tonight. It definitely needs suspension work. This needs to be fixed if I want to sell it.

That's a thing about pretty much all American cars of the '70s; you were replacing ball joints and shit all of the time. 30K miles, swap out a couple of ball joints and a tie rod end.

Oh geez....... SC397 and his love of trunions.. Your brass bushings don't do shit for those hokey bolt together control arms.

Yeah I wonder why someone don't weld up an upper that would take a ball joint and the later spindle. Hell I'd buy a pair

However, the Rebel is a better looking and better built (things like door hinges and such) car. The Javelin would be better for at least some return on your investment, you know, losing less money when you go to sell it.... The Rebel just has a smaller fan base, and '71-'74 Javelins are picking up in popularity and price. mainly the '71-'72 models, but all of them in general. it's nice to have something to drive while you're building a car, but maybe the funds from the Rebel sale and desire to have the car on the road again would be a motivator?
