This was a perfect response to the questions I had asked him:
Alright Rick, I'm home now and I can think more clearly than at work.
Here's what I'm working on, 1982 Jeep J10 Honcho Sportside pickup. Drive train will be your 383, TH400, novak adapter and a stock np208 t-case. Front axle is a 8 lug Dana 44, 4.09 gears and the rear is a Dana 60 from a j/20 with 4.10, no locker. Tires will be 35" on american racing outlaw 2s . the truck will have 4-6" of total lift, axles clocked and driveshafts lengthened.
I'm not building this to hardcore off road etc., I'm building it more as a cruiser, BUT I do want to be able to highway drive this truck. The current gearing may not be enough to do that, but I can change that later if need be. This is a unique truck in many ways, so putting one of your motors in just feels right. Plus, it's a farm truck, so a Farm Guys motor seems like the perfect fit
Here are the build threads i have going on the truck, so you can get an idea of the work being done and what's been finished so far:

As for the carb and intake, I hear you. If you think the air gap would be the better fit for this application, I will defer to you. I'm sure we could work out a trade for the NIB performer plus cash for an air gap. What carb would you suggest? I prefer Holley personally, I can use the 570 i have on my 79 gmc (Farm truck #1} so no big deal there.
Cam choice. I'm really going to defer to you here again. You've built a few of these, so you know how they behave. The intended application is above along with the complete drivetrain it will be mated to. Those parts are all complete and awaiting installation, it will not change. My initial thoughts were a comp cams 270/270 or a 268/268. But tell me what you think.I'm more interested in your thoughts than my own predilections.
Exhaust. i was planning on using the Doug Thorley's, unless i can find a set of NOS Hooker comps/super comps that fit these trucks. I'm hoping to do true duals with no crossover. My head is locked in the eternal debate between magnaflow and flowmaster for the mufflers. fitment may dictate otherwise, it's tight between the frame rails with everything else in there being a shortbed.
Lastly, I'm detailing this truck like a restomod, it's not going to see mud, So the engine bay will be well neat and well ordered. Obviously, i want this engine to be the centerpiece of that and look like a million bucks as well. if the hardware that's there looks like crep, replace it and it it to my tab. I am debating chroming the oil pan or going with the canton pan as well. I'll have the clearance, so that's not going to be an issue. Your opinion here is welcome as well.
Lastly, thanks for the heads up on Fastenal, I wasn't aware of their logistics services. I'll go that route. I'll build the crate in the next two weekends and get it off in about 2 weeks. I may hit the thing with a quick wire brush and knock off a few pounds of our precious southern clay before boxing it, unless you would like some of that rare earth for your yard? Maybe it will bring the temps up a few degrees for ya.
If you change your mind on the up front, just say so, You're a good man, I wish everyone I did business with was more like you. Thanks for keeping this hobby going strong for guys like us.
Lot's of info here, sort it out and tell me what you think.
