Before spud brought it up here, I had never even heard of Roadkill Garage, so I had to take a little crash course and watch some highlights. Those guys don't know how to properly hokey anything. Their stuff's way too proper. At any rate, my Rebel is certainly in the Roadkill spirit. I deliberately haven't given it a Comet wash or put the nice wheels and tires back on it yet. More Roadkill that way. I took it past the mailbox and down to my friend Hot Rod's place. Naturally, he somehow had something better to do on a Sunday than wait for me to show up unannounced. Yes, that is coolant running out on the ground. I need to get a puke tank. The GM TKO, the 475lb. rated one, not the TKO500, and the most valuable piece of the whole car. In fact, probably worth more than the rest of the car by itself. Had to cut the tunnel for clearance, but was able to use the factory crossmember with a TH400 trans mount. Had to add a couple of holes in the x-member. Shifter location is OK. Would be a little better if the offset went the other way. Debating on cutting and welding it. Idle oil pressure after some "spirited driving". Not bad for an old junk 360. Some of the clutch linkage, courtesy of Dirty Dan. Only had to make slight modifications, and had to build the strut rod bracket part from scratch. 1970 360, R4B, Edelcock Performer cam and lifters, vaunted 291C heads (ho hum). It might run a little nicer if I get rid of the 20 year old mouse chewed ignition wires and cracked distributor cap.

Looks good. Shift handle on mine took a few "adjustments" to get it how I wanted it. I cut it off just right at the bend crease and redrilled. Still wanted more over so over to the 12T press. Laid it on a v block and a 7/8 bolt shank on it to press into the v slot.

Perfect enough! I like those ford steel wheels on the back. They are “ pretty good”. Since i havent wasted any money on wheels yet, what size are they? And shift hand tuneup is pretty straightforward. If you chuck it in a vise and heat a bend, it’ll tweek right over. It’ll blue the chrome though. Cold bending it like in a press is good too, but sometimes cracks the chrome. You can buy different handles from hurst but they might not be exactly what you want and they are expensive. You can also get it closer by adding spacers and longer bolts between the handle and shifter stub. I think what you got there is a hood candidate for the cutting torch reheat. The chrome wont like it but fuckit its roadkill. Awesome work and killer machine Reb!

I think they are 15x7 or 8 off some kind of late model Jeep product. Not sure if I have the other two anymore. When I get a few extra $$ for tires, I'll be putting the Torq-Thrusts back on.

With the shifter, I think cutting it off at the top bend, flipping it over, and welding it back together will make it perfect. I just don't want to muss up the chrome.

If you heat the bottom bend and pull it to you, it’ll go where you want and have a spray bottle handy to cool it. The chrome will go blue and yellow, but probably not up to the top bend. The boot will not go below the top bend and hide the carnage. Or you can take about and shifter handle and redrill it for your shifter stub and do whatever to it, and keep that handle nice for the swapmeet or whatever. I went with hurst pn 5389015. It has the round shaft. It fits like a fookin glove. 99 bux from summit. Go to holley and hurst and check out the shifter handle catalon. It has dimensions and its like shopping for shoes, you will find a nice fit. Honestly i spacered it over an inch but ergonomics is everything in your roadmachine. Its worth a hundred bux to have the handle where it should be. I’m not sitting in the drivers seat of that darlin but i can imagine a little heat would put that stick right where it needs to be. If your squeemish just buy something closer. I cant stress how important it is for the handle to be in your natural grasp.

Chrome on the handle I used already took a shit from the fire and caustic fallout from plastic bins. Was an original I had hanging on the wall since 73 or so. I want to strip the chrome and have it chrome or satin finish powder coated

I love that Car. Didn't you have a 401 in it before?
You need one of them 140 Speedos like Tony has.

Yeah, Cap, I had a 401 with a TH400. The combo just didn't make me happy. I went with this 360 as it was one I put together years ago and never used. It came out of a manual trans car, so it had the match balance flywheel. Hopefully I used the right one. I'd love to find one of those speedos.

Very cool ride. The early 2 doors are by far my favorites. Still dicking with the efi/5 speed set up on mine. <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;">

Nice. A '67 (my favorite) and what looks like a '71 Matador. I always wanted a two door '71-'73 Matador.

Good job Reb! My first car in '86 was a 1969 "more door" Rebel SST 290/auto. I always kinda wanted to build a 2 door sleeper version, they just have great lines.

I have always preferred the squared bodies. Screw that aerodymic bullshit. Give me acreage

I will say one thing, the 2.87 gears are stupid, even with a 3.27 first. First chance I get, the 3.54s I got from Rick are going in. Which probably won't be until spring.
